Simplify3D

Lately I’ve been reading allot of positive things about “Simplify3D” slicing software.
simplify3d.com/

The comments about this software are very promising, the only problem is that they don’t give out trial-editions. So no way to find out if this software is worth the rather big investment of $140. So does anyone here have any experience with this software in combination with the K8200? I’m using Cura most of the time.

Reading the forum, it seems that there are a lot of bug remaining in the version.
Maybe it’s better to wait a little bit before spending money.
But it’s true that it sounds very nice with the demo vidéo
I would say… wait and see LOL

I bought simplify3d a couple of months ago. At first i was dissapointed. Then version 2.1.0 came and now i am really happy about it. Takes little more tweaking but the extremely fast slicing makes up for the very few bugs .

Slicing speed is like: slic3er = 20minutes, cura= 2 minutes, simplify3d = 10 seconds.
That big difference there are.

The processes function is really useful, to be able to use different settings for some layers/objects.
And manually editable supports is great to have.

And the price, seriously… it’ just the cost of some filament rolls, or a new hotend…

could You share your config files for simplify?

Hy AndersE,
I share ur point of view now…
I also brought and tried the soft, much more easier to configure than other ones.
I also saw a lot of your posts on Simplify3d forum LOL, it’s true that there are many bugs but we can solve the problems easily, or at the end, I use another slicer…
It’s true that for few filament rolls, the price is not so expensive (140 usd = 100 euros) and very good quality for multi-object printing.
Thanks for your posts regarding this soft, I think this soft deserves a try.
See Ya and good prints

Simplify3D will not work on a MacBook Pro Retina OS 10.10 (fresh installed Yosemite)
Immediately after loading an object the program hangs.

Tried unsuccessful to uninstall & reinstall, did check the disk permissions, changed the visualisation preferences, …

The Simplify3D support team has been contacted, but no answer yet.

I bought Simplify3D and its the best software i have so far.

Works perfectly for me, fast printing and easy to reconfigure.

It does “Cheat” on the slicing, as it slices the first layer, and then prints, as its printing it slices the next layer.

For me this is brilliant, 5 sec and printing starts on a job that took 3 hours to prepare in Slic3r

I attended the TCT +Personalise Additive Manufacturing show recently and one of the exhibitors suggested Craftware.

It’s a Beta at the moment but seems stable in terms of crashes (better than Slic3r 1.2.0). It’s free to use and looks to have some nice features.

I’m still trying to get it dialed in, but it looks promising.

Hello to all who already successful work with Simplify3D:

Du you have some Profiles you like to share?

Thanks in advance,
Eddy

the default profile works perfectly for me

All i changed was the retract distance to 2.4mm

Can you explain why 2.4mm ?

I was getting some “Stringing” when printing complicated shapes.

This improved the “Suction” to pull back the molten ABS

I’m also using Simplify3D successfully with the standard parameters.

However, to my experiance Cura slices much better.
With Simplify3D I mostly have to correct the STL first with netfabb in order to get the expected result. Cura seems to repair STL files by itself.

Moreover: I find Cura “simpler” to use as Simplify3d.
Or why can’t you rotate an object in Simplify3d with the mouse like in Cura?

Regards

I’m using a 0.3mm nozzle.
Bottom layers and perimeters are all fine, but the infill is quite bad. Nearly not there.
with Kisslicer I have the possibility to set the infill width.
I’ve got me the S3D for having the chance to manipulate the amount of support.

Maybe it’s working better with a 0.5 nozzle.

If you double click on the file you have placed in Simplyfy3d you can rotate as needed.

There is a cure /heal function in the settings menu as well

Hope this helps

Hi all,
New here to the K8200. Almost ready to get the wiring steps done. Once built, can you just use the Simplify3d program - standalone? I didn’t know if you had to follow the “velleman” steps and use software recommended to get firmware where it belongs etc??

Any insight on what the best next step is when ready to Fire Up the 8200 for the very first time!

Thanks!

OH - and sorry - I already own the simplify3d software which I bought for another printer thinking it would work - but not supported.
If this makes any responses different

thx

    Hy,
the new version of Simplify 3d 2.2.2 recognises the K8200 and K8400 printer in the configuration.
    Works fine with my K8200

How about the quality? Did they fix some or maybe all bugs?
