Have had this happen it is probably like @8400 write. It only happen when i use a older klass version of a SD card. It is like it cant keep up with the reads when there is many small instructions. Now days i use a klass 10 card with no problems.
haven’t needed to print on a pc for over 8 months, so why now?
4 different prints in 3 days, 3 out of 4 have failed with different issues;
1 - Z axis dump
2 - 9 hr printed fine
3 - Y axis random crash (rammed itself into the belts)
4 - which is just now, printer just randomly stops “vertex is ready” after 3 hours
today i have reloaded the single nozzle firmware, and uploaded my settings. removed the second nozzle, checked voltage on stepper drivers, checks ALL connections, checked G-code and repetier settings.
clearly theres an underlying issue i can seem to find, random resets, seems odd, nothing is overheating as it’ll complete a 6-8hr print fine and then pick and choose when it wants to fail.
at current i am nuking through limited filament, so i believe now i won’t be able to finish the project and have to buy two more rolls due to wastage on failed prints.
i can see me breaking it down for spares over the next week which is a shame as it printed pretty well for a while
Have you checked if there’s no noise generating device in the neighbourhood or electric surges/drops. Try to plug your printer on a UPS or through a net filter.
hey guys, checked all out, have printer running on SD with repetier log running in background, so we shall see what that churns up
i have added heatsinks to the stepper drivers, and checked through settings again,
its currently plugged into a surge protector, only thing i can think that generates enough power in the house is the oven… if that would cause an issue??
I don’t know with the Vertex but with the K8200 multi socket extension cords with surge protectors were known to cause hang ups.
It’s best to use a UPS.
i have a UPS, has not solved it, PSU, not solved, firmware hasn’t changed it either,
contacted velleman support but tbh i doubt theres anything we haven’t already covered,
its devastating news, going to reload firmware and try again but i have lost all confidence with this printer and velleman, as i seem to be constantly changing faulty parts, when one issue arises, 2 days later i have yet another fault,
likelihood will be when its sorted the printer will be sold and ill move to a different manufacturer all together,
Sorry to hear you couldn’t solve your problem. I have this printer for more than one year now and I’m printing almost everyday without a hitch. So the printer is reliable once well tuned.
You may have already done this but I am going to throw it out there.
On the power supply check the switch to make sure it is seated in 110VAC or 220VAC.
Check the connection of the mains are they tight?
Check the connection for the output of the power supply and the input to the board.
I really hope this may help.
As Raby said I have had mine for awhile now (I think for over a year) and it’s been a great machine.
i checked the psu the following night after the slight rage i had,
can’t believe i was so stupid to overlook it,
moved from an old 1920s farm house with a low mains power output, to a new build (which meters off mains at 250v) output was coming up at 15.9v on the output, so dropped that to 14.99v then re did all my stepper drivers down to lowest they will go,
thus far (touch wood) i don’t seem to be getting the hang up issue, just having small issues with steps skipping, which i believe was from attempting to print too fast lol
wonder if the higher voltage was causing the board to randomly reset to protect itself, thus, reason why i was getting no errors. would explain why some of my other equipment (battery balance charger etc) were doing things more efficiently than normal lol
the printer when it works does so fine, I’ve managed to complete several projects with it usually without a hitch, just hoping i can get a few hundred more hours out of it to finish this
