K8095 MP3 Player

Hi,

I think I accidentally blew up the PIC18F26J11. Is there a way to get a replacement?

Thanks very much,

Gertjan

Please return defective PIC for exchange to:

Velleman Projects Tech. Dept.
Legen Heirweg 33
9890 Gavere
Belgium

Thanks very much and the PIC is on it’s way.

FYI: In the mean time I have bought another K8095 for a different project and with the PIC of that new unit the first unit worked fine again so it’s definitely the PIC that is blown.

Regards,

Gertjan

Hi,

I have almost the same problem here, but I broke a pin of the PIC. Do I have to send it to the adress you gave aswell??

Gr,
KoF

You could try to solder a piece of wire to the broken pin.
If this does not work, return PIC for exchange.

After 3 months waiting, i obtained the optional lcd!!! Connected,OK but a cursor is flashing when powered of ? A SDHC card with music, loaded via Windows Vista, refuses to play. LCD message :NO FILES FOUND, REPLACE, RESTART.There are possibly some Jpegs present on the card. Is firmware upgradeable?
There are possibly some Jpegs present on the card. Is firmware upgradeable?
The player can only play MP3 files.
Sorry, no firmware upgrade.

I have received the replacement PIC but I’m sorry to say that with this new one the MP3 player still doesn’t respond to all of the A…E keys (e.g. D is not detected) so it seems that the analog input RA1/AN1 is not working correctly. I have swapped the PIC’s of two different MP3 players and the problem follows the PIC, not the rest of the print.

Shall I just return the PIC to the same address for replacement?

Cheers,

Gertjan

I think there is more wrong than just a bad PIC, please send the complete kit to us via your local Velleman dealer.

I’ve rechecked a couple of things before deciding whether to return the whole kit via a dealer as I don’t live near enough one that I can easily drop it off.

I removed the PIC and checked the voltages on pin 2 and 3 for each unit and they were exactly what I calculated based on the resistor values so I put the PIC back and now it works fine. Then I removed it and put it in the other unit and now it works fine there as well. It could have been a bad contact on the first unit I put it in but that still doesn’t explain why I had the same problem with the PIC on the other unit. I’m confused, but as long as it works there is no need to return it.

I do have to confess that I blew up the PIC of the new unit. Same mistake, but a different pin… Stupid, I know…
I will return that for replacement.

I just filled a 4 GB sdhc card with 11 folders, no subdirectories, all pure mp3 music, nothing else! The only message i get is NO FILES FOUND, REPLACE, RESTART. Has Windows Vista something to do with it. All other cards i filled are made with Windows XP ??? Please explain what this issue is. I don’t like to reinstall a pc running Windows XP only for this.

The Windows Vista is not the reason to the problem. Maybe the SD card is defective.

Again i tried to load an other WORKING SD card with the same folders i used before, again no response from the player, but this SD card works fine on my double SD deck from J" systems, Conclusion; the folders are OK but why does the k 8095 refuse to play them?!
SD Card OK!, Maps OK!, K8095 OK? I still have my doubts about the compatibility with Vista, this issue needs more research.

Strange problem, indeed.
Maybe there is something wrong with the folder attributes.

Right click the folder name on the SD card.
Select properties.
If the folder attribute is “Hidden” or “Archive” it will not be played.
Uncheck “Hidden” and “Archive”.
Click OK.

Hidden and archive are unchecked, now it’s “read only”. I even unchecked this box. Totally no response…, now i give it one shot with different folders as they are, if the player still refuses to play, i’m obligated to re-install an old beast with that good old WINDOWS XP on it, i wasn’t a big Vista fan, it will never be too!Now one hour later i copied a full cd collection called heaven to my SDHC card,
All folders are bearing the same name only the vol. nr and disc nr. is added. On the display i see that the names are changed. For example : Heaven 7 cd 2, is now called HE3B6B by the player…And now it’s playing??? :open_mouth:

Please put some MP3 files to the root folder of the SD card and try if they play…

Does anyone know what the unused J7 connector is for? ICSP Maybe?? Also What are the VDD and VPP pins for on J8? Great product though. Works perfectly…
Does anyone know what the unused J7 connector is for? ICSP Maybe??.
Yes, both the connector J7 and J8 are for in In-Circuit Serial Programming (ICSP) .
Also What are the VDD and VPP pins for on J8?
The VDD is the supply voltage (3.3V) pin.
The VPP is the reset (MCLR) and programming voltage pin.

More about the ICSP: ww1.microchip.com/downloads/en/D … 51764b.pdf

Here some tools for the ICSP: microchip.com/stellent/idcpl … rDebuggers

Ahh interesting. I have the Kit pic programmer with ICSP although I doubt there’s much I can do with this product that it doesn’t already do… I suppose I could back the pic up incase i break it but if I manage that I guess I deserve to buy a new kit anyway…! I have a separate ICSP question too but that’s for a different post…!

Backup the existing firmware is not possible.
Instead, you may replace the PIC with a new PIC18F26J11 before programming.

 • And you can use the card as a development platform for your own programs.
