I received the K8200 yesterday and i just finished assembling. I started configuring and all seemed to work well (stepper voltage was good, all steppers worked, switches worked, extruder and heatbed worked) until about one hour after the first power-on. Now the leds that flash when you upload a new firmware are on all the time, the board gets hot and it does not respond to any command i give it. noting had changed between working and not working. The printer was just idle.
Do i have to send it back to be checked out or can i fix this at home?
I believe the issue is with the power regulator. It’s the part that gets got ant also the output pin of the regulator shows about 1.6 volt. I don’t know if this is normal?
Repetier can connect to the printer but it says “Connected - 4 commands waiting”. Whenever i send a command (like home all axes) it adds a number of commands to the queue but does nothing.
AHHA! success, found one stepper ( the second one from above) that caused the issue. without this stepper it seems to work just fine. at least the board does not heat up and it’s recognized. just need to buy a new stepper driver then!
I tried it in another slot and then the board became unresponsive again. I pulled it out and it worked again. It is definitely defective. I will replace it and post a status update as soon as it gets here.
I checked the wiring before. If i switch the shields they don’t burn out so i think the shield was damaged. The axes are working now like they should. i did a dry run without PLA in it and it ran without issues for 20 minutes. I hope Conrad sends the new shields soon!
Thanks for your post, I put the steppers back in one by one and found that the X-Motor one is the culprit, so I’ll be ordering a new one, thank you so much.
If the Heatbed thermistor is disconnected is should read 0 degrees right?
Mine reads 112 degrees, while the bed is cold (disconnected the heating as well)
if i short circuit the pins on the board the temp goes up to 739 so it does seem to read something…
It does not seem normal that the board fails after a really short time (+/- 1 hr). How would i send it back for repair/replacement? This has to be under warranty…

No Problem, I’ve gotten great support so far, and good experiences with Velleman in the past!
So i just take a box, add the controller, copy of the order receipt and a detailed description of the issue and send it to the above mentioned address?

I’ve sent it with all the info to the address above on Friday. Tracking code says it will be there on Monday. Do you guys have any idea when it will be checked? Since I’ve been waiting a while to buy this printer i’m pretty impatient to start printing!
