Z-motor suddenly stopped working

I have been using the k8400 for a while now and i am really happy with it, making better prints each time!

But when my printer finished a print yesterday, my Z-axis(motor) suddenly stopped working. When i “home” it. my X & Y axis do as normal, but when the Z axis should go up and down, the printer just stops. After that in the interface the option “controlprinter” is gone. I already tried to replug the motor, but that didnt seem to work.

Does someone have an idea whats going on? (before i start unscrewing parts :P)

Thank you for your time helping me out

did you check the z-axis endstop? Maybe oil or debris is blocking the lightsensor

Actually… no  I will check it after my work. Thank you for your fast reply! I will post an update this afternoon.

So the endstop was clean and triggers when i test it. But my z axis is still doing nothing.

But when i trigger the endstop and then “home” it. It starts making a noise from the motor. I sounds clogged or something but everything moves smooth, so i really can’t find an explanation.

Does someone knows what this is?

So i tested my motor by this method: youtube.com/watch?v=1U9pf7S_ov4
The LED’s light up and it worked fine.

But while plugin everything back in, i found out that this burned module was the problem:

I switched this one for one of the working axis and my z axis was working again!

So those module(s) need to be replaced (the other two are also near dead). But how does this work? Is there something like a warranty for this kind of things? And do i need to go to velleman or to my dealer for this?

I have just experienced the same thing!! The Steppermotor controller burned up…
luckily it seems also here that it did not damage further. I was in the middle of a large print and not near the printer when it happened, but the printer did stop printing and heating and all…
@Eldoras- What did you do about this? Did you contact Velleman? Did you get another chip replacement?

This should not happen during normal use.
