XYZ not working and extruder not hitting setpoint

Please help?

My printer suddenly stopped working. All commands to the motors give no reaction. Thee extruder doesn’t reach the set point and will oscillate about 10 degrees below set point.

The rest works, heated bed reaches set temperature and the fan reacts to input.

Any help would be appreciated.

Are there any error messages in repetier?

Are there any error messages in repetier?
None whatsoever. If i click on any movement buttons, it’ll just give an OK, but nothing happens.

Does repetier show it is connected to the printer?

Yes and I can control the fan + speed and set temperatures. The fan works, The bed works, extruder heats up but doesn’t reach set point and Steppers don’t work.

:frowning:
Could there be something wrong with the circuitry / motor drivers?

I’d suggest to check your 15v power.
Is it connected correctly?
Does it really deliver 15V?
Does the voltage drop out sometimes?

Is anything on the board getting hot?

cheers,

Christian

Hey Christian,

I’ve check the power supply and it’s stable around 15V.

This part does get a bit warm/hot. It can still be touched without pain or anything though, so its probably no hotter than 50 degrees.

That part is the 5v regulator for the digital logic.
If it doesn’t get too hot to touch it should be ok. Whereas about 50°c sound a bit warm.

Try to remove all the stepper driver boards and then reinserting them one by one, to see if one of the stepper modules causes the trouble.

I’ve tested all every driver board, no success. The steppers work though, when i put a voltage on their pins, they lock into place. With the board connected, the steppers can move freely.

Ok I did some more measurements.

Thermistor = 104K

Stepper driver:

Dir and step pins are connected to ground.

1A, 1B, 2B, 2A pins are all 15.9 V.

Reset = 5V
Sleep = 0V

PSU = 15.5 V

Is anything standing out?

This might not be it but it’s worth checking.
In the printer settings check to make sure Reset on Connect is set to Disabled.
Mine was changed for some reason after it was running.

Ok some progress. Reset on connect was indeed not set on Disabled.
Now that i did, the printer gives me an error, whenever i give a command:

Printer stopped due to errors. Fix the error and use M999 to restart! (Temperature is reset. Set it before restarting)

I can still heat up the bed and the extruder though, and the voltage on the heater while heating up the extruder is 14,5 V

M999 generally means that the the extruder or bed temps are out of line.
Either at 0C or 700C
If you have 0C you have an open for that thermistor.
700C means a short.

You may want to try to shutdown Repetier reset the printer and start everything up again to see if the clears the error.

Temperatures are neither 0 or 700 degrees.

They are pretty much at room temp when not heating up. The bed is reaching set temps but the extruder is always about 10 degrees below set temp.

Have you reset your computer and printer?
Power off and power on?

Have you changed the firmware recently?

I’ve now reset everything, rebooted pc and reset the board. I’ve updated to the latest firmware to see if it would fix my problems but it didnt help.

When you updated the firmware did you use ARDUINO 1.0.6?
You can get it from here.
http://arduino.cc/download.php?f=/arduino-1.0.6-windows.exe

The only other thing I can think of is Repetier may have been corrupt somehow.
Maybe rip it off and reinstall it.

Hope this helps.

I’ve flashed the latest firmware and reinstalled a bunch of different repetier versions. Nothing helps unfortunately.

Thanks for the help anyway.

So you have flashed the latest firmware.

BUT did you use Arduino 1.0.6 to do so?

If not, IT WILL NOT WORK!
