X Y Motors directly on the rods

HI, After giving the whole pulley system a closer look I came up with an (out of the box) idea. Why not mount the X and Y stepper motors directly on the rods instead of having the pulley’s and belt.

The only disadvantage I can think of right now is that the motors will be outside the box, which I don’t care about. Only the X motor will be in the front.
Here is my question, is it possible to invert the rotation of the stepper motors?

Regards

I just did that today. Ordered 2 360 mm shafts. Only problem was that one of the linear axles was a bit to thick
Had to really force the bearings onto that one shaft why cant some people do things right
Some corporal punishments for Chinese Ebay sellers passed my mind
But here it goes. no problem changing the direction of the motors just turn the contacts 180
For the coding just cut away the disturbing parts on the stepper motor
Added resilient couplers to the motors. And a not so nice motor mount with spacers
My x and y motors are in the back and backhand left
Works fine for me. Wont post photos looks like shit but works well
I am happy with it and recommend it for everyone who has problems with belt grinding
