X-axis skipping steps

X-axiz keeps skipping steps, any idea whats wrong here?

Dont think there is too much resistance for the motor, as the first print went just fine, and the second print ended up like this, I have lubed up the follower rods with WD-40.

It looks like each layer is fine, but when the Z-axis moves up, it skips a step randomly.

Hi, what voltage did you set the stepper drivers to?

  • any more infomation you can give will help.
How long have you had the printer, any mods and basicaly just more info please.

Hey

The voltage is set to 0,425 as it says in the manual. Other than that it’s completely standard, just used it 2 times now.

I have a 6mm glass plate on and masking tape on top of that for adhesion. I use 190C extruder and 50C bed temperatures.

Hi, the motor voltages listed in the manual have proven to be a little low to be consistant, most people are using between 0.50 & 0.55 (0.55 is better and works fine).
The problem you are having is that at 0.425 the motor is running on low power, somethimes this is not enough to react to the change in direction required, as a result some steps are missed and the print area moves in relation to the bed. The X axis has more mass than the Y and is usually the one to have this problem first (as the Y axis carrage and motor move with the x axis). In your case the 6mm glass has increased the mass and compounded the effect (@ 0.55 you should be fine even with the glass).

Hello and thanks for the tips! I will adjust the voltage accordingly and see what happens, allthough I just had another successful print.

Is it possible that the slicing sometimes gets it wrong, because I tried again with the same thing, and the print seemed to do exactly the same mistakes, may be i could try rotating the object 90 degrees to make the larger movements on the Y axis?

WD40 isn’t a lubricant! It’s mostly solvents and will remove oils and greases.

Any tips on what to use?

Light machine oil - 3in1 for example

Sewing machine oil

Those are probably the easiest to find.

You want something of low viscosity with no detergents and that doesn’t evaporate and form gums or varnishes.

Allright thanks!

Looks like the voltage change fixed the problem, got that print working just fine

Had a little bit of Z-axis wobble but nothing serious.
