When exactly should the VM147 produce a pulse on the output

I find that the manual is not clear at all about the criterion for producing an output pulse.
It says something like:

  • PULSE: set 0, 1 or 2 to indicate the length of the pulse on the output,
  • which itself should occur when the value (I assume the actual counter number) becomes equal to the preset value
  • max. 100 mA @ max. 30 V
  • “memory function constantly compares the current value with a preset value and activates an output for as long as both are equal or for an adjustable time.”
(" " taken from the cardboard cover)
  • type of output: ‘open collector’.
But when the counter reaches the preset value, no signal appears on the #4 connector.
Does anybody know what is going on? Is there anything special about’ open collector’ that causes my misunderstanding?

Thanx.

Great stuff, writing your questions and thus unswering them yourself!
So indeed, it is the open collector issue that troubled me.
(Non-)Problem solved.
