Voltage regulator and connection issues

Hello,

I have problems with my controller board:

  1. No more USB connection: with USB2 connected LEDs 5 and 6 blinking (beside USB connector),
    blinking is irregular. With USB3 connected LED behavior normal, but also no connection

  2. Some devices on the controller board become extreme hot after short time of connecting the power supply,
    e.g. voltage regulator 7805 and mircro controller.

  3. One pin of the USB connector on the board looks damaged (plastic molten a bit), but electrical connection tested ok.

The board was in use for more than one year now without any issues.

Has anyone an idea what could have caused the problem?

Could you please post a picture of the board?
By the things you described it sounds like there’s a short or the microcontroller is damaged internally and is drawing a lot of current.
If necessary you can send the board for inspection/repair to our repair department or to your local Velleman dealer.
