VM204 problem IP and notifications mails

Dear all,
I am new on the forum because I received the VM204 card ordered last Friday on Amazon.
I am so disappointed with my purchase, the hardware does not work as it is described in the technical specifications: email notifications
Day 1 :
My VM204 card is loaded with firmware v 1.0
In the manual it is indicated to use the “VM204 Firmware Application” program to load a new version.
However, this program can not be found on the website.
How do I load the firmware version v 1.2.1 available on the website?

Email notifications:
How to set to operate the function?
I have an email account on [deleted email address], I set:
smtp.adresse.com
port 587 and TLS (checked)
also with 465 and TLS (unchecked)
My email address
My password …
The test returns the errors:
100 or Can not resolve smtp server name

Tests performed with another mail provider, identical errors!
Is this a problem of firmware version v1.0?

Day 2:
After 1 day of trying to make the notifications work (hopeless), this morning I changed the IP address to a fixed address, the card does not work, status LEDs do not blink anymore!
No more IP link, unusable card.
Please tell me the procedure to reactivate my card or return it.
Best regards
Alain

Dear:

Firmware (location): Firmware VM204

Manual and instructions firmware flash: Manual VM204 see page 21 for firmware flash.

Fore email settings:
These e-mail settings are depended of your email provider. You can check by your provider for the SMTP settings for Your mail provider like: (gmail / hormail / outlook / etc) see google “gmail settings smtp”.

example of gmail:

smtp server (out going server): smtp.gmail.com
port: 465 => SSL yes
verification => yes:
for port 587 => TLS/STARTTLS: 587

To reactivate the card you can reset this, see manual (link above).

Thank you for your reply
But sorry I repeat the problem:

  1. I am trying to reset the card but it does not work:
LEDs 1, 2 and 3 are permanently off.
    The LED8 is lit red
I put a shunt on the 2 pins “reset” then I disconnect the USB cable, then I remove the shunt and reconnect the USB cable, it does not change anything.
  2. The program “VM204 Discoverer” does not detect the card (it is well connected to the network, the green and orange LEDs on the RJ45 socket are lit.
  3. I pressed the “reset” button, without improvement.
  4. When I press the buttons SW3, SW4, SW5 and SW6 the LEDs 9, 10, 11, 12 are lit.
  5. Where is the “VM204 Firmware Application” program?
Hoping that this information is useful.
Thank you in advance for your indications.

Hello
Please tell me if there is any hope of running my VM204 boardcard by following your instructions or if I have to return it to the seller because the boardcard does not work, it is unusable (even after reset) ?

Regards
Alain

Hi,

You’ll have to upgrade the firmware
The firmware upgrade tool should also be installed on your PC when you installed the discovery software.
Please check again.
The firmware can be found here => https://www.velleman.eu/downloads/files/downloads/vm204_firmware_1_2_1.zip
How to install the firmware is explained in the manual => https://www.velleman.eu/downloads/0/user/usermanual_vm204_en.pdf

Hi,

  1. The IP link IS NOT EFFICIENT, even after reset.
  2. Where is the “VM204 Firmware Application” PROGRAM ?
    What can I do ?

Regards
Alain

Check in your installation folder of the VM204 software. It should be there.

Then if you don’t know the address of the VM204. Check in your router.

Hi,

Thank you very much for your information.
Everything is correct now.
The VM204 card is currently in DHCP, can I set it to fixed IP address without generating blocking?
For information, my email setting is:
smtp.gmail.com
port 465
TLS checkbox checked
The emails are correctly sent.
All other email settings trigger error 217 or 520
Thanks for your help
