VM201 is not responding on the port given (ex: 9760). No matter what port you put in, only port 80 is active. Because this port is blocked by most ISP’s , no one is able to connect from the internet using a simple port “forward” in the router. (as being the case in a Fibernet Telenet modem)!!! For this you need a "mapping " wich is not available.
VM201 is not responding on the port given (ex: 9760).
This is an important question: responding to what?
Port 80 = fixed = web interface for a web browser (IE, FireFox, Chrome, …)
Port ? = user selectable = iPhone, pc software, …
Apparantly, this is ISP related.
Anyway, you can use any of these applications:
Microsoft Windows: velleman.eu/downloads/files … ontrol.zip
iOS: itunes.apple.com/be/app/vm201/id581187349?mt=8

This affects every browser, Internet Explorer 9, Firefox 10.0.1 and Chrome 23.0.1271.97m ? Even Android 4.0.4 is suffering this issue. Let me put clear:
- I received for the VM201 an IP adres of the DHCP server of my Telenet Fibernet modem which is 192.168.0.191
- Browsing to this adres or simply vm201/ is OK …we get the webserver on the screen so this is OK
- Browsing with 192.168.0.191:9760 (the default listening port in the settings) is only starting a download of a file with an unknown file extension in Chrome.
- Browsing with 192.168.0.191:9760 in Internet Explorer does only return “A¸X¡C¶” on the blank screen
- Browsing with 192.168.0.191:9760 in Firefox does only return “A¸X¡C¶” on the blank screen
- Browsing with 192.168.0.191:9760 in Android 4.04 does only return “A¸X¡C¶” on the blank screen
Using 192.168.0.191:80 works fine and that means that port 80 is in charge and not 9760. Besides this ,…changing port 9760 to 10000 or something else does not solve anything. If we cannot put another port on the VM201webserver, this device is useless for access from the internet. Every ISP blocks ports under 1024 so we must use the port 9760 to put it on the port forward list. By the way ,…your movie on Youtube does only show a correct function on the same local subnet.
Did you people test this device from outside the local subnet and passing through no matter which modem/router. I can easily get everything working for a synology NAS (3 Android applications for Internet acces of my files) with Telenet portforwarding in the fibernetmodem. And finally…the world is bigger than only iPhones and pads. Please consider urgently an Android app. Most technicians use android for the open character…
We seem to have confused you… allow me to try again
The web server is always on port 80, you can not change it. In your case you can only use it inside your local LAN.
The other port (in your case 9760) is for remote control, and does not speak HTTP. So there is no point in opening it in a web browser. There is remote control software for Windows and iOS, as linked to by VEL417.

I know,…but using a simple browser from the internet must also working. Try this with Internet Explorer or Firefox:
http://moons.dyndns.org:9760
and see what you get (no users yet defined,…so actually free access!). I only get for this very moment:
LNRelay 1KNRelay 2INRelay 3GNRelay 4ENRelay 5CNRelay 6ANaRelay 7?NRelay 8=N InputS£C¶
but things may vary by time…All settings are adapted in my Telenet Fibernet router/modem as (correctly) described in your manual.
Chrome is downloading only a file called “download” of about 1kB
That looks normal, you are seeing the raw bits and bytes used to communicate through software. Each browser will treat this strange data differently.

Sorry,…this a a serious setback which is not documented well. Make the webserver a changeable port and we do not need extra software or an app.
By the way how must we acces when using your remote software. Does the address input in the software accept URLs from dynamic DNS providers?
Hi,
I just tried it with the software using your public IP address (not the URL) and it did connect and did seem to work.
When using the URL it would not connect.
Seems like it could be dydns.org
I know on some routers there is an option to forward the public port to a private port
Meaning that if you make the request from the outside of your firewall to port 9760 your router can take that and forward it to port 80 on the inside of your firewall.
Unfortunately I’m still waiting on the VM201 to come into my area.
I hope this helps.

Nope,… it really is moons.dyndns.org. Without typing it correct you never could get my public IP-adres.
I must say I saw you manipulating the relays and leds on my VM201,…It is possible to access it from abroad. But unfortunately even the software provided, does not support URL’s so we must know or discover our public IP-address before being able to connect to the VM201. Not so many people, surely not those with that so called “userfriendly” iPhone, have the knowledge to do that.
What I do not understand is that Velleman did not make the webserver working with an adaptable port number. 60% of the SOHO routers here in my region is a modem/router with a public WiFi-spot from our ISP. Portmapping to port 80as you explaned, is not supported. Velleman wake-up please!
We are currently investigating the possibility of providing the option to change the port number.
As soon as we have an update, we will post it on these pages.

This is absolutely good news !!!
Without that possibility the real value of the VM201 is in doubt! You may not expect from customers to go and search for each public WAN address in order to able to connect from the Internet!
When I decide when I’m not home to activate a relays for no matter what reason, the quickest and most simple way is using a webbrowser with a URL via a dynamic DNS provider.
Thanks for considering a rework of the develpement. What to do wih my actual VM201,…can I send it back for a reflash of the firmware?
VEL417,
That’s great.
Can’t wait for the VM201 to arrive in the USA.
Thanks

Wow…Nice to hear that you were able to manipulate my VM201 relays here in Belgium fromout the USA !!
I didn’t know you were in Belgium.
That’s just plain cool.
Thank you for letting me test it.
LOL
As soon as we have results, we will offer the possibility of returning the item for a software upgrade.

I’m controlling my VM201 via the internet, using VPN (from my iPhone)
Works great!!

There is no a app for Android? Is this in the “pipeline” ? When I read the trheads before it is not so simpel to it with a browser. Is it to difficult for a “simpel” man like me?
Have VPN router?? (Draytek 2910 is good)
Then add a VPN dial-in user profile on your Android and Bob’s your Uncle…
Doesn’t matter which platform you have, VPN works everywhere
it is planned to put a wifi
card on the VM201?
Thank you for your answer.
