Hello, first of all, I am a complete amateur with electrics, i’m just tinkerer who learns via my hands, so please be very descriptive when answering my question please… and i’m sorry if it seems very basic. I have a 1s-60h pulse - pause timer currently powered by a 12v power supply. I know how to set the timer and what not, but i’m unsure as to where the output is? I wanted to use it to loop an LED strip light on and off but I do not know where to fix the positive (red) and negative (black) wires. I did insert them into the relay output but nothing happened.
Connect your led strip to the power supply of the led strip. Normally, the led strip will lighten up.
Now switch the led strip off and cut ONE of the wires between the power supply and the led strip.
Connect the two cutted ends as follows:
1 cutted end to the COM of the relay
1 cutted end (the remaining cutting end) to the NO (normal OPEN) of the relay.
Switch on the power supply of the led strip (and the power supply of the timer if they are not the same) and you can use the timer to switch on or off the led strip. Connecting the wire that is on the NO output now to the NC (normal CLOSED) output reverses the working of the timer.
If you can understand: a relay works as a switch.
Thanks a lot mate. I didn’t realise it needed two power supplies and the previous LED strip I was using only had wires on one side. Your technical advise is much appreciated. I’ve also got a toy gun which has a light up/audio function and I think it’d be cool if I could control the intervals on that, only thing is it runs off of 3 AA 1.5v batteries. Do you have any idea how I could do this using the VM188?
Think of the VM188 as a switch: you always interrupt one of the power wires of the device you want to control and one end of the interrupted wire goes to the COM and the other interrupted end goes to the NC or NO, depending on what you want.
