VM110 / K8055: Protecting the board / computer

I have just bought a VM110 board, to start with I want to use it to switch on and off a small 3V DC motor.

As a test what I’ve done so far is connected my motor terminals as follows: One to Digital Output 1 and other one to CLAMP. Then I’ve connected my power source (two AA batteries giving 3V) with the positive wire going to CLAMP and the negative to GND.

In this configuration everything works and I am able to switch the motor on and off via the test USB program, which is great!

But what I want to know is: Is my configuration okay? I don’t want to cause damage to the VM110 board or my computer. Should I be putting some resistors / diodes somewhere into the circuit to help protect the components?

Thanks, Michael

Should be OK, as long as the current consumption of the motor does not go beyond the specs of the K8055 digital out.

Sorry, but what are the specs or where can they be found?

I guess the K8055 manual would be a good place to look for specs on this item, don’t you think…
