I have my vertex for a few weeks now. At school we also have a 3D printer, the Felix 3.0. When I compare my Vertex with the printer at school, than the vertex is a very loud machine. In my room, I measured about 60dB from the vertex, wich is allot. It’s also more an annoying sound then other printers. When doing infill, it rattles like crazy, looks like something is loose. I thought it was me having build something wrong, but on Youtube I hear the same.
With the felix, all you hear are the motors peeping or what I call them “singing” When you are about 3m away from it you can’t even hear it. It has indeed another system, the build plate moves etc, but with the ultimaker 2 they can also get him quiet, and that is the exact same system.
I also noticed smaller motors on the Felix and on other printers, why do we have such a big ones? they make more sound then the little ones.
Why is this such a loud printer? Can we make him more quiet in any way? I bought some silent fans already, but still…
Difficult to answer.
Noise level depends on assembly, print speed, slicing, part that is printed, etc…
Vertex has an enclosure and fans, these offer benefits but a drawback is that they can amplify noise.
Yes, that’s some kind of a solution, but I understand there are silent or more silent stepper motors…
Trying Google, but it’s difficult because of so many variatons in stepper motors. Does somebody has knowhow about this?
Which motor could be a silent replacement of the Wantai 42byghw811l20p1-x2 used in the Vertex?
