Velleman USB Controlled DMX Interface - vm116 / k8062

Velleman USB Controlled DMX Interface - vm116 / k8062

Hello all…

I have purchased this kit and had it professionally assembled and tested to be working !!

When i took the unit home to setup with my DMX lighting i find i have issues with the USB connection not being recognised by my PC & Laptop ?

I have installed the ‘Lightshow’ software etc but when i connect the unit to the PC it comes up with >>

“USB Device not recognised”

The first time i did this both the LED lights on the unit were working (on) but now there is nothing ?

If you connect it in test mode away from the PC using the 9V battery everything lights up ?

Please can someone advise me on this and possible tell me if i have a faulty unit or i need a specific driver ?

I have tried with two operating systems > Windos XP and Windows 7 32bit and 64bit

Thank you

Glenn

If both LEDs are off, then there may be USB cable or connector or soldering problem on the board.

Okay and thank you, i will take the unit back to the guy that assembled it for me to check…

Right it seems that the power LED was not lined up with the console box hole … doh!

Now when the USB is connected the power light is on and the LED flashes 3 times then goes off, but the USB is still not recognised in windows XP or Win 7 ???

Help!

Thank you

Glenn

You can use the program USBView.exe to check the VM116/K8062 USB connection.

If you download and run USBview.exe, do you see this kind of data when you select the VM116/K8062 from the list:

USBView is available for download as a .zip file from: ftdichip.com/Support/Utilities/usbview.zip

USBView is a free utility from Microsoft that displays the USB connection tree and shows the USB devices that are connected to it together with their configuration data. This is very useful for debugging USB enumeration errors.

I have downloaded and installed the above program and get this >>

Thank you

Glenn

As a final test you may try with other USB cable.
If still the same problem then most probably the microcontroller IC2 is defective.

I have tried various USB leads and PC’s and laptops :frowning:

What do i do now then with this unit ?

Do i need to take it back to where i purchased it from or send it away to be fixed under warranty ?

Thank you

Glenn

I have a problem with my unit, .
Some devices don’t Recognize that they are receiving a DMX signal. I have checked the DMX chain with my other desk and all Lights are working fine so it is a fault in the box its self.

Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this.

The DMX Light flashes constantly and the power light stays on all the time.
If this is any indicator to what is going on

Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this.
