Velleman K8200 w/E3D-V6 - Filament feeding not working

Hi all,

I’ve been reading around on this forum for about one month now and I found lots of useful information about the printer here. I’ve just assembled and mounted the E3D-v6 hotend to my printer, but the filament won’t get driven through to the hotend. If I manually force the filament, it comes through.

What do I do to fix this?

At first, does your hotend reach the desired temperature?

If so, does the filament slip on the hobbed bolt, or does the hobbed bolt grind into it?

Yeah, the hotend reach the correct temperature. The filament seems to grind a bit, enough to get some marks when I pull it up again, but not enough to get pushed through the extruder.

What material do you print, at what temp setting ?
The E3D normally needs a bit higher temps, because of it’s smaller melting zone.

PLA at 200. If I push the filament with force, it runs through the extruder though, but I can try to increase the temperature to 210 or 220 and see if it works any better.

Loosen the spring screw of the filament drive completely and see if you can push the filament
through by hand with a reasonable low amount of force.

If not, check if the filament binds in the guide or ath the point where it enters the hotend.
Perhaps the mounting holes do not align properly with your mount.

cheers,

Christian

I loosen the spring and was able to push it through without much force. Check the video I just recorded.

Looks quite ok so far.
Can you make a video of your results when the filament is normally loaded?
Maybe extrude some with manual control from repetier?

Do you use the 1.75mm version of the hotend?
If so, i think you need at least a modified filament guide block to keep the fliament from buckling in the filament quide and thus blocking.

Perhaps check out this one : thingiverse.com/thing:648925
If you want i can make a version with 2mm inner guide hole for printing 1.75mm filament available.
But i don’t think that would work for flex as good as the 3mm version does.

cheers,

Christian

I got my K8200 pre-built, but I disassembled the filament guide from the extruder and I saw the problem. The original filament guide will not work with the 1.75mm because the lever will not allow enough tension towards the hobbed bolt. If I run it without the filament guide it will work fine, except that the filament slips through either side of the hobbed bolt. I will search for a new filament guide, as I think this will solve my problem and allow 1.75mm perfectly.

I will cut the original filament guide so I can put it a nearer the hobbed bolt. This will make it work fine.

Why not try my mount?
I (or you by yourself) can easily move the filament guide hole (center of hotend bore) towards the hobbed bolt in the design.
I did that already for the 3mm mount to get more tension on the flex 3mm.

cheers,

Christian

Did not work quite as expected. It runs better without the guide at all. At first I get grip and the filament flows through, but once the filament hits the hotend, it starts slipping on the hobbed bolt. Forcing it through manually still works.

Any ideas on what I can do next?

I will try your Z-axis mount once I get the filament guide problem solved.

Sorry, i posted the wrong link.

I meant this part :

I’m sure i can make it work for your 1.75mm hotend with slight mods.

cheers,

Christian

Aha, thanks! I will try this

Pleas let me know your experience with it.

Perhaps it needs a little tweaking to work for 1.75mm filament too.
I have a 3mm hotend, so i couldn’t test it myself.

cheers,

Christian

I removed the nozzle from the extruder and now it extrudes PLA perfectly. So my problem was in the nozzle the whole time.

Ah, ok. ~:(

But nice to hear you can print again now.
