Using VM116/K8062 with Windows Vista

Has anybody gotten the VM116/K8062 to work with Windows Vista? It works fine on
98SE, ME and XP but when I plug the VM116/K8062 into the USB on a Vista machine
I get the error message that the HID (Human Interface Device) has stopped working.

Is there an XP mode on Vista I need to set first?
Perhaps some special HID driver for Vista?
New firmware for the VM116/K8062?

Any ideas?

Normally this kit should work with VISTA (build-in HID driver Microsoft).
Check for admin previleges on you PC.

Wish HW version is your kit (PIC type PIC16C745 or 18F2550 ?)

It has PIC16C745.

I’m running as the administer, do I need some special additional administer flag set?

I have loaded NO software on the machine. It is a fully up to date version of Vista Home Premium.

All I do is plug the VM116/K8062 into the USB port, after a minute or so I get a
message the the HID has stopped working. When I plug it into a 98se, me, or xp
it says the first time only, new device found, then your device is ready for use. After the first
time, I get no message, but I can find it under device manager. It always runs fine
with 98se, me and xp. But with Vista I can’t even plug it, Vista does not seem to like it.

I suspect that Microsoft has made some obscure change in the HID drivers
with Vista that the VM116/K8062 can’t handle.

My error! When I got the HID stopped working error message I did not go on. But since the previous poster said it
should work, I went ahead and loaded in my software and the dll’s supplied with the VM116. I came
right up and worked fine. Thank you so much.

Several of us do lighting for various local community theaters. We had been looking for a replacement for those
old clunky light boards we were using. With our VM116’s we can now do lighting control directly from our laptops. Thanks
again for such a great product.

Glad to see that you got the VM116/K8062 working and you like this product!
I went ahead and loaded in my software and the dll’s supplied with the VM116.
Strange thing is why installing the supplied software was needed to stop the HID error message to appear.
Normally the DLL and software are needed only to run the light control application software or demo program with the VM116/K8062 unit.
But you got error message just after plugging the VM116/K8062 in.
All the HID drivers needed to detect the device should be included to the Windows.

This other thread shows what also may happen if the supplied software and DLL are not installed:
