I got my new super little 'scope and put it on charge as I was trying it out. When I connected the probe to a function generator as normal there was no trace visible on the screen at all. After measuring the function generator output and finding that was good I tried disconnecting the earth lead from the probe and the trace was clear and fine on the screen. Will this happen in all cases where the unit in charging? I know that the unit can be used to detect events over long periods and the battery life is 6hrs or so. Any ideas?

In the online manual on page 5.
It states that if you are going to use the scope while charging it you should use a mains adapter that can provide 9Vdc @200mA
If you are using a USB port to charge it you should just let it charge.
Basically, we recommend not to charge the unit while in use.
It is safer and it will avoid ground problems.
