USB keyboard interferes with K8055?

Hi,

I recently built a K8055 kit, and I have had a problem with the device not being recognized by my home computer. I don’t think it’s a problem with my construction of the K8055, because it works fine on two different computers at work–it is recognized every time there.

When I connect the K8055 at home, sometimes it is recognized. But more often, LD8 flashes and stays on, and Windows displays a message that the device was not recognized. Sometimes LD8 flashes and goes off, but Windows says “The device cannot start (Code 10).” The Microsoft KB was not much help as to the cause of Code 10.

Last night I was swapping the USB cables around to different ports. I realized that if I uninstall the USB keyboard drivers in the Device Manager before I plug in the K8055, the K8055 will usually be recognized when I plug it in and Windows goes through the “Found new hardware” routine.

I thought that this particular keyboard might be the problem, but I tried connecting different keyboards from different manufacturers (both USB and PS2) and the problem persisted. So I have a work-around but not a solution to the problem. Any suggestions?

It may be possible that this has something to do with the DirectX ?
The DirectX version 9 is problematic and can’t detect K8055 properly.
This issue have been discussed in this forum.
You may run DXDiag program to check the DirectX version. The DXDiag software hangs if it is version 9 and if K8055 is connected to the PC.

Other possible solution may be the keyboard driver update. May not help anyhow - you have problems with two different keyboards.

What is the operating system you are using?

All three of the computers I’m using have DirectX 9.0c. I’m using XP Home Edition SP3 at home, and XP Professional at work.

It doesn’t seem to me that DX9 is the problem, since the unit works fine on the two work computers. Maybe it’s XP Home Edition that’s the problem?

Thanks,

Ed

This is a very strange problem…
