Unable to load ABS filament

Yesterday i received my K8400 and completed the build.
Today i calibrated the Z axis and tried to load up some filament for my first 3d print.

Unfortunately the print head isn’t able to reach the 245 degrees it needs to reach.
The guide mentioned that it could take a while, but I’ve waited for 2 hours, and don’t think i should take that long?
It stays at around 230 degrees and it wont start loading the filament.

What i noticed is that the top fans keep spinning at full speed, is there supposed to be some control on these fans? or are they meant to blow full speed?

I would really like to get this solved, i want to start using it.

Edit:
Well i managed to get the filament loaded. But it shouldnt work like this.
The steps i did where:

  • Manually set fan at 25%
  • Manually set extruder temperature to 250 degrees
  • Wait for extruder to get to 250 degrees
  • Load filament through LCD menu

Because the temperature was above the 245 degrees needed temperature it just went ahead and pushed the filament through.

The first print went great, but the 2nd and 3rd where a nightmare…
The temperature of the extruder didn’t get any higher then 215 degrees after the first layer, so it was only printing some random dots from time to time.
I also needed to use the steps above to get the printing started.

How can i solve this problem?

Best regards,
Danny

Hi,

There should be no problem with reaching the temperature, and it is correct that both fans start spinning when the nozzle heats up, this is to ensure the filament heatbreak.

It is however possible that the thermistor is not fully inside the heater block and that you are cooling the thermistor with the fans. Can you please post a close up picture of you thermistor?

As seen in the manual the sensing part is the little blob you feel:

and it should be in the center of the heater block.

If this is not so you will get an incorrect measurement of the temperature.

Thanks for the quick response.

I’ve checked what you asked and i disassembled the print head, it seems that I’ve misplaced the thermistor.
I do notice that there are 3 blobs and used the wrong one, should have payed more attention…

It’s heating up properly now.

Thanks for your help.

Danny

Hi,

Glad to hear you fixed the problem:)
