Something strange happened. My virusscanner traced a Trojan horse (Trojan.generic.14790957) and deleted it. After a restart the Vertex 3d printer program was gone. When I try to reinstall it, the same Trojan horse is popping up. (Windows7 and F-secure)
I downloaded it from the Vertex site. Meanwhile I managed to reinstall the Vertex software, but haven’t any clue how this could happen. I did full scans and my computer seems to be clean. So for now I can go further…
Thanks for showing interest.
I did several scans and tests, also FSC scannow for corrupted system files.
Remains weird why it removed just the Vertex software. I think I’ll never know…
A year or two ago, creating a simple windowed application (I’m a software developer) with only one button would trigger McAfee. Also, an executable compressed with UPX (a legitimate tool) trips some anti-virus scanners.
I’m just saying that they are not fool proof, sometimes they simply make educated guesses which may or may not be correct. If the software is from a trusted source, then the chance of downloading a virus is reduced dramatically.
Don’t misunderstand me, I never thought it came from Vertex because I had it installed for about 4 weeks before this happened. But I only wondered why it did remove Vertex.
After all tests done, I assume it is a false positive.
(I sure do have fun with my printer, but on this moment I can’t print because of useless pulley screw-thread after recalibrating my axes. I made a ticket for this last thursday but after the default no-reply mail, I haven’t got a respons yet. So for fast continuous fun, I would be grateful getting a respons. And I promise to be more cautious with the hex key
