Thanks for the help in sorting my problems out, but I have another. Can the torque of the Y stepper motor be increased slightly. The problem I’m having is that the stepper motor stops going up, seems to be that the bar which holds the print head seem slightly too heavy and tends to stick mainly at the bottom. If I try and assist the Y stepper motor in turning, it does help it move. When I assembled the Y sliders, the travel of the carriage was felt free.

I think you are talking about the Z axis, that’s the one that goes up and down.
You can set the voltage reference to 0.55 for all of the drivers
You should try to oil the rods with a light machine oil and make sure everything moves freely
I solved the problem. The 2 upright slide bars / guides were out of spec and too wide at the top and bottom compared to the bearing assembly. Was an easy fix done by sanding a fraction off the plastic supports. Managed to get them within 0.1mm compared to the nearly 1mm as before. Again thanks for the help Don
