Steppermotor broken for the second time

Hey guys,

the stepper motor of my x-Axis is broken for the second time. I can’t figure out why it is …

When the first one was broken i searched for the defect for hours, till i noticed the steppermotor was broken. I replaced it with a new one and everything was fine.

The new one only ran for 20-25 printing-hours and is broken too, now …

I have gained a lot of experience with calibrating and so on and the printer ran fine about 4-5 month so i don’t think its a “calibrating-issue”.

Maybe something on the driverboard is going wrong ?

In advance thanks for every of your answers !

If you disconnect the steppermotor from the x axis, can you then easy move the printerhead
sideways with your fingers.
Do you freqently lubricate the axes so they can move freely.
Is the axes still lined up as when you asembled the printer.
Were you aware off any heat or smell from the steppermotor before it broke.

-Yes
-Yes
-Yes
-No ( was at night when i was sleeping both times)

But I forgot to say, the steppermotor still moves. But he moves really Bad, even if I remove the belts so that the motor could run without resistance , it balks…

The only other thing than mechanic stress, there can ‘kill’ a stepper motor, is if you put too much current in to it.
Did you check the voltage at the stepper motor driver as described ( 0.89v - 0.925v), if
it is too high it will run too hot and eventually get defect. maybe the trimmer is defect.

You can try to swap the driver with Y axis to see if the problem move with the stepper driver.
