Stepperboard toasted, small fire

I have my Vertex sinds it was presented in begin 2015 everything went well till today:
Printing a object ETA still 3hrs to go. The printer stopped and my attention was taken by the sudden stop
turned my head to the printer and saw all electrics going on and off till it stopped and a small fire
began, my first reaction was pull out the outlet. Fire was going on till I blow some air on the small flames.

1 Stepperboard toasted, some black burning marks on the desk, print and cables.

I like to share this bad history with a good end: I WILL NEVER LEAVE THE PRINTER ALONE ANYMORE.
What could be happend if I was not there???

I removed the stepperboard and fired up the printer all seems ok, but not tested yet.

Next step:

Diagnosed the Z stepperboard was defective, seems like some resistor caused the fire.
Removed the stepperboard
Cleaned everything and soldered a possible lack of solder
on the 2 hottest pins of the motherboard.
Interchanged the stepper from my second extruder.
“Fired” it up and loaded filament, everything went well.
Further testing tomorrow.

Before too much time passes, I would get some new DRV8825 stepper drivers. I bought Geeetech brand with heatsinks and they work. Amazon also has similar ones. Make sure you adjust their voltage and check if the trimmer decreases turning clockwise.
