Software wont download properly

Just finished building my K8200 printer from a kit. I’m using Windows 8.1 on an Alienware laptop [ 16 Gb ram ], but having problems downloading things like the drivers and Version 0.84 of the Repetier Host [gives error fault]. Don’t have problems downloading version 0.95 from the Velleman website [slightly different in the setup procedure]

As for the voltages and adjusting the trim pots on pin 2 [ as in the pictures in the manual] [very small and narrow pins of the miniature chip. Pity there is no provision for a dedicated spot on the driver boards for this] of the driver chip to 0.425V, I don’t get any variation of voltage on all stepper motors [ all 0 Volt], but don’t think I correctly downloaded the drivers to the board, but I have tried several times with no joy.

Maybe I didn’t understand the instructions properly, but I’m looking for ZIP files to elimate faults or errors in downloading and transferring to the board. There is a voltage of 4.98 V on VDD of the circuit board below the stepper driver modules on the main K8200 board. In the building of the kit, I double checked before soldering all the connections.

On powering up the board there is a green LED that flashes twice then goes off near the Y STOP plug. A green and red LED lights up when the USB [ USB 2] cable is attached at both ends when the power is off. When power supply is connected the USB these LEDS actually go out. Not sure if the details I have given are of any help. When the drivers are downloaded will the USB LEDS flash at all?

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Don

Hi Crash,

You download the software and drivers (all in one) from the link below.
http://www.vellemanusa.com/downloads/files/downloads/setup_repetierhost_k8200_0_95f.zip

After you unzip the file and start the install it will install the software and drivers all by itself.

When adjusting the reference voltage make sure you have the ground lead of your meter connected to the negative of the power supply.
You will need a very small screw driver to fit into the pots of the driver cards.

Since you are using Windows 8 you may need to disable the digital signatures.
This is something I am not positive about.
But if you do need to do this follow these instructions.

  1. Windows Key + R
  2. Enter shutdown.exe /r /o /f /t 00
  3. Click the “OK” button
  4. System will restart to a “Choose an option” screen
  5. Select “Troubleshoot” from “Choose an option” screen
  6. Select “Advanced options” from “Troubleshoot” screen
  7. Select “Windows Startup Settings” from “Advanced options” screen
  8. Click “Restart” button
  9. System will restart to “Advanced Boot Options” screen
  10. Select “Disable Driver Signature Enforcement”
  11. Once the system starts, install the drivers

Hope this helps.

Hi Don,

just to be sure - you do not mean any of the (nearly hidden) pins of the A4988 IC, right? There is a via right above that IC, which is the correct location for measuring the reference voltage, as shown here.

Cheers,
