Shaking Motors

I finished constructing my printer a few days ago with few problems, but I’m having a lot of trouble with the motors not moving correctly.

I’ve connected it to my computer fine, uploaded the firmware and checked the motors and heaters, 3 of the motors worked perfectly, now after re-wiring the other motor all of them just rotate back and forth about 1/10 of a turn.

All 4 motors are set to 0.45v and I’ve tried increasing it to 0.55v with no change. I am a novice when it comes to electronics and I haven’t got any more ideas.

Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Have you rewired the motor with the power supply still connected?

No, I it was disconnected and I didn’t touch any other wires.

The re-wiring is the only thing I’ve done between the motors working and not, so I can’t see it being me causing a short circuit on the board either.

Do the motors turn constantly back and forth or is it only when you send a command to the board?

It’s only when I send the command.

are the endstop switches connected?

They are, yes.

Although I’m very confused now, I haven’t touched the printer in a couple of days because I’ve been busy and today the motors worked fine, after I turned it on and off again they had the same problem as before and now they are working fine again without me changing anything.

I’ve now done all the checks on the motors, switches and heaters and everything works fine.

In short, the motors and wiring is fine but the printer seems to randomly choose whether it will spin the motors or not.

Are you still having this issue?

Yes, it’s doing it at the moment, the X motor goes in the plus but not the minus, I’ve tried it with and without the micro switch connected with no change.

Update: I’ve now turned it on and off about 5 times and all motors are working fine, but now the heated bed isn’t, Repetier isn’t picking up anything and I can’t heat the bed manually.

It’s happening again today (x-axis motor). It seems very random, most of the time a motor won’t work but sometimes it’s fine.

I’m having a very similar problem, did you find a solution for this? Or did you just ship out your board?

Edit: For me it seemed to be a problem with the driver for the motor. Got a new one from Velleman and worked well.

Hello,

i have read in an other forum that some electronic equipment can influence the controller of the 3D printer. Also by swithing on some lights. Maybe check this, an put all electronic what is not necessary away or switch it off.
