RS 232 comm with K8056, part II

Hi

My K8056 board has returned from velleman and seems to work now. When pressing the test button one of the switches is switching on, this looks OK.

When I connect a serial cable to the board and when using the test application nothing happens.

When using a volt-meter I see about 5.1 on the serial line and when pressing a button in the test appication this value drops to different values between 3.0 and 4.4

The data led does not blink and the switches do not react.

Jumper settings are:

J1 OFF
J2 RS232
J3 Normal

What could be wrong?

Hans

Setting J1 to ‘ON’ will help a lot

Yes,

RTFM might help

Hans

Dear all,

I’m experiencing the same problem as hans.

The test works well and the jumper are now set to the correct positions.

How ever, the RS232 commands by the software demo does not succeed.

Should LD10 react when receiving RS232 Data?

I set a RS232 analyser bertween my PC and K8056 and i can see data sent by the software but no reaction from Leds or relays.

If anyone has any idea, otherwise i’m lost.

thanks

Elie

Hi Eli,
I have the same problem, the rs232 communication fails. The led stays dark.
I see there are no reactions on your post, my question is: Did you solve the problem in the mean time (if so, maby you could give me a tip). Or anyone else?

Thanks in advance
Hans

Are you sure RS232 polarity is correct?
Are you using the demo software?
Check if the RS232 arrives on the PIC.

Hi, thanks for your reply

The connections seem to be richt.
I am using the demo sw on a windows xp system. With the help of a sniffer i found out that there are signals send over the com-ports.
Should i measure 5,1 over the line in?
How can i make sure the sr323 arrives on the pic? With a voltmeter? I do’t have a scope.
Thanks again
Hans

I solved the problem, i could not measure any voltage on my 25 pins SR232 so i tried the 9 pins and that works allright.
Any suggestions why my 25 pins doesn’t work?

Grtz
Hans

Hard to tell. Maybe the cable is not fully wired…

Hi,
thanks for your reaction.
I should be able to measure voltage on pin 2 at the computer but there is no voltage, nothing also on pin 12. (in case of con

The port is enabled in the bios, so I think the computer itself has the problem. Strange enough has my server the same problem, so my two computers fail to work on the 25pins sr232. Coincidence?

Grts

Are you sure the 25-pin connector is RS232? Most likely it is a parallel port…
