Hello,
I have a problem with Slicer Software (Cura Engine) for my new K8400 Dual Extruder 3D Printer. With the first extruder everthings works fine.
But if I try to slice a stl-File fot the second extruder, the result is always a gcode for the first extruder.
In the Object Placement Window of Repetier Host 1.06 the 2. Extruder is selected and the preview shows the colour for the second extruder. (yellow). Then I go to the slicer window. Here is Vortex Dual Head selected for Printer Configuration. But after the slicing process, the preview window shows the colour for the first extruder (blue) and the Gcode for the printing start is the same as the gcode by slicing for Extruder 1.
By testing this Gcode on the K8400 printer only extruder 1 was heating.
I can’t find my mistake. I would be very grateful for a little help.
Here is Vortex Dual Head selected for Printer Configuration
That’s your mistake : Dual Head is used only when you print with both heads at the same time. If you want to print with Extruder 2 alone you must select Single Head.
You can use the 2. Extruder on 3 ways:
1.) after Slice go to edit G-Code insert a new line and only type T1 in this new line. (do this after line 1 and before line 7)
2.) go to “Manual control” and select there “Extruder 2”
3.) go to Manuel Control an type “T1” in the g-code Box and click on send. (with T0 you change back to extruder 1)
it is sufficient to print with Extruder2 if you use only ONE of these 3 options !
for option 2 or 3 you must be connected to the printer
but if you print from SD-card you must use the first way and save the g-code with the new line on sd-card
in all this 3 options it does not matter if you slice your print-objekt with extruder 1 or extruder 2 - you always print with extruder 2
…and if you use both extruder - do nothing - it realy works
this is wrong what you write !
Sorry to contradict. After more than one year fiddling and using this printer every day I think I know what I’m doing.
And your solutions are of the type : why make it simple when you can do it the hard way…

maybe it´s better you also load the firmware for single head if you switsch in repetier to single head ;-))))
maybe it´s better you also load the firmware for single head if you switsch in repetier to single head ;-))))
Obviously you missed something.
So to be clear :
To use the left extruder alone : in the Slicer tab you must select ‘Vertex Single extruder’ in the ‘Printer Configuration’ line and select ‘extr2’ in the Object Placement tab’. And that’s all.
In a single head configuration and dual head firmware the printer would not start due to Min Temp errors from the second thermistor not being there.
You should really listen to Raby he does know what he is talking about.
please read again what Raby write … he use the two extruder firmware and switch in rapetier to one extruder…
hey - but he is always right because he use over 1 year repetier ;-)))
