Radio interference elimination of the stepper motors

Does anybody know how to eliminate the Radio interference of the stepper motors?

My wife allways rants me about my printer when she listens music on radio. The radio is interfered by the stepper motors as soon I start a print job.
I know that normal motors get a radio interference elimination by soldering a coil and/or capacitors between the connections and between the connections and the casing.

How is radio interference elimination with the stepper motors?

In case anybody suggests to forget my wife and just focus on the printer: I can´t. Unfortunately I love her deeply. :-))

Sorry, this problem has not been reported before.
Most likely, you are not listening to an FM radio station?
Did you try increasing the distance between the radio and the printer?

Put a couple of ferrite beads on the Cables. The Cables sort of work as the “antenna” for the stepper motor. Usualy you need to use shielded Cables but sins the printer is using Power stepper motors with unshielded Cables the radio signal interference become more problomatic then for instance a stronger voltage Power based stepper motor does.

It should solv your problem and your wife will stil love you untill the next problem she can blame you for

@ VEL417: Well, any problem will come once first time. :-))
The distance is about 5 Meters and a concrete wall between.
Yes, it was an FM Station (Bayern 3, her favorite station).
No, I didn´t tried to increase the distance, yet.

@ Marlak: Good idea. I will try it with the ferrite beads. Also I can put a metal net tube over the cables.
The diameter is variable unless it isn´t tightened.
No, hopefully she will not look for next problem…but actually I have heard today the sound in my head like…“why you
don´t put that THING in the cellar?!” Paah! Nasty! My little Baby in the cellar. Never. :-))

It is strange that you get interference on the FM band.
Either the station is very weak or the tuner is extremely sensitive (e.g. Tivoli or similar).
Anyway, the tips from Marlark can help.
Make sure to also try relocating radio/antenna, it is much easier to perform.

As @Vel417 is on to is that some tuners in stereos can pick up what is called garbage distortions usualy not very common on todays tuners. Is the same thing that you can get from for example PC’s wish is the reason why on the PC’s you can find ferrite beads on them usualy you have it on the signal Cable now Days on the monitor Cable and today computers are much better grounded then back then as the entire chassi could in fact be acting as a antenna then. Back in the Days computers did alot of radio distorsions. Is better now but it was a huge problem in the 80-90’s.

Remember that a stepper motor like most motors generate small currents as a side effect of motion pritty much makes it like a indirect radio station. But if it effect the radio or like it could back in the Days even the TV signal with snowy Picture. It isnt realy swedish house mafia comeing from the motor but in your case i Think it is probably distortions on 2 places on the FM range probably around high side of 9X.X and low side of 10X.X

Eeeech i sounded like an old fart in that text
