Pulley confusion - one or two set screws?

Hi, I purchased a Vertex kit a couple of weeks ago and have been gradually assembling the printer. My build is currently on hold due to one of the rods being too wide to fit through the bearings (I have already raised a ticket to get a replacement) so during the wait I’ve been doing some reading up on the forums.

I see some people mentioning that their pulleys have two set screws, and also that there is a stickied post in the parts issues section about obtaining replacements for damaged pulleys.

Are new kits supposed to come with the two set screw versions? The ones in my kit are the single screw ones. Mine are not damaged as they are not all installed yet but already I’m concerned about how fragile the set screw threads are and how thin the thread depth is. Can I request the improved version even though mine are not damaged?

We will see what we can do for you with regards to the pulleys

That’s great news - should I send in a request as per the sticky?

Yes, please open a ticket.

I believe you already have an open ticket?
If so, there is no need to make another one, I have added a comment to it

Yes, I had already raised ticket 244465 for the problem with the rod. If you can also add replacement pulleys to that, that would be very helpful. Thank you very much for your assistance.

My printer came with 2 set screw versions: The m3x4 which are mentioned in the manual but also a set of 16 m3x5 screws. They were labeled “Use these on the xy-rod T2,5/19T-pulleys” or something like that. Since I made the mistake of using two of them on the stepper motor pulleys I came 2 m3x5 set screws short and used the m3x4 instead.

Adjusting the belts and pulleys requires a lot of tightening and untightening the set-screws. especially when using the m3x4 instead of m3x5 you run the risk of damaging the thread in the pulleys. So if Velleman sends you the new pulleys with two holes make sure to use the m3x5 screws (There was someone on the k8400 Facebook page mentioning receiving new pulleys without set-screws) .

Good luck with your assembly!

Thanks Berryman, that’s interesting to know. I didn’t get the M3x5mm screws either, I guess those were added to the kit along with the revised pulleys and my kit must be an earlier version. Hopefully someone from Velleman will be kind enough to include some with my replacement pulleys.

I’ve been really enjoying assembling the kit so far so it’s really frustrating to be stopped in my tracks, can’t wait to get my new parts and finally get printing.

Since the forum moderators are not that people that handle the tickets, we’d recommend to update the ticket, just to make sure the pulleys are added.

Although I appreciate you don’t handle the tickets yourself, are you able to give me any idea of the normal response time for tickets for DoA parts? I raised my ticket a week ago and have yet to have any update or response other than the initial automated acknowledgement. It’s frustrating as I really want to finish assembling my printer and not have a half finished printer and bits everywhere, and as this is an issue with an incorrect part rather than any error in assembling I was hoping to get a quick turnaround on it.

TIA.

Thanks for the update, I’ll hope to hear something soon.

Good news, I received notification today that my parts have been dispatched, including the replacement pulleys, so now I can’t wait for them to arrive so I can finish building. Many thanks for your help.
