This may seem a silly question, but I saw the instructions for connecting the Programming Shunt to the motherboard to change the firmware, but it did not mention removing it again. Do I have to remove it after the operation is complete, or do I just leave it on the motherboard?
My other question is how much tension should be on the belts. I would be grateful if anyone could let me know if this should be tightened right up or how much play there should be.

It’s only a protection. I leave mine all the time. I’m testing a lot of things and so reloading the firmware on a regular basis. That way i don’t forgot to put it when I want to load a new firmware.
There’s no ready made answer. First, without the belts, the X and Y axis must run perfectly freely (not the slightest friction from side to side). If not, widen a bit the space between the clamps.
Then the belts. Too much tension is not a good idea. Tighten the belts the minimum necessary to avoid them slipping.
