I got a brand new PCGU1000 package and tried installation like I did with many other software packages and drivers for Win7 64bit.
According to page 23 of the supplied manual I connected the device to a free USB-port. “PCGU1000 Function Generator” was detected but no driver found. Therefore in device manager a yellow warning sign came up.
To solve this I tried installing the driver by giving windows the installation path to the supplied inf-file. This failed. Windows wants to get a digitally signed driver.
I then tried “PCGU1000 Installer.exe”. This worked and I got a USB controller “PCGU1000 Function Generator”.
I then tried installing PC-lab2000SE_V3.03 from CD. This failed with a message “not compatibel”. According to the readme file I tried “PC-Lab2000se.exe”. I window came up. When clicking on ok there only comes a message “no function generator response. Program will be closed”. 9V was supplied and the device connected.
Its not possible deinstalling “PCGU1000 Function Generator (Driver Removal)” by clicking on deinstallation. A window comes up "Vellemann PCGU1000 Function Generator Installation location C:\Program Files\Velleman\PCGU1000_driver_Vista. Driver Version 4.40. When clicking on “Uninstall” there comes a window “eine unbenannte Datei enthält eine ungültige Pfadangabe”.
When I put in the CD, wait for Autostart I can choose installation of PC-lab2000SE 3.03 by double clicking on the upmost point. A message appears telling that this is not compatibel with Win7 64bit.
Now again there is a yellow sign in device manager.
I am really frustrated now. You may understand.
How to proceed with this?
Should I return the package?
I really hope you have an idea what to do solving all this mess. Seems to be there is no real driver for Win7 64bit. Problem after problem instead of fun using the device.
You can use the driver: “PCGU1000 USB driver for Windows XP (32- and 64-bit) / Vista (32-bit) / Windows7 (32-bit)”
This driver can be used after the “workaround” for 64-bit Windows too.
I did a download of the files. I started by reading the “PCGU Driver Installation in Windows 7.pdf”. I did extract the zip to a folder. The hardware wizard did not come up. I went to “device manager”, searched for PCGU function generator entry, and did update driver software by giving the path to the driver 5.4.0.0 where the inf file is. There came up 2 error messages that this does not work.
I did not get a message “Windows has successfully updated…”.
I ignored that.
Now when trying the same again there is a entry in device manager “PCGU1000 Function Generator (COM3)” shown at the COM ports. Before it was shown under USB.
When I try reinstalling the driver a message shows that the optimal driver is already installed. Of course still the yellow warning sign is shown in device manager.
When I go to properties I on the first tab there is a message: “the digital signature of the necessary driver cannot be checked… Code 52”.
What should I do next?
May be I should follow advice for Win7 64bit first?
according to your hint I ran PcLab2000SE_v4_05_setup.exe
to install the PcLab2000SE v4.05. I ignored the error messages.
I read the file Release Notes.pdf and followed the
“Workaround to use the PCGU1000 on 64-bit Vista or Windows 7”
Driver 5.4.0.0. is installed - date from 10.12.2008.
There is a status message “die digitale Signatur… kann nicht überprüft werden. Code 52”.
I ran CP210x_VCP_Win2K_XP_S2K3.exe with defaults. Then there was a reboot.
But still this yellow sign is there next to the line
“PCGU 1000 Function Generator (COM3)” in device manager.
How to get rid of this?
I also followed step-by-step instructions how to install the USB driver in Windows 7
that you gave.
When starting PClab2000SE there comes up the window v4.05. PCGU1000 can be set in the USB-devices. No lpt devices. Clicking ok there comes up a window “no function generator response”. Still does not seem to work. The generator is connected to USB-port and also 9V is supplied.
I also tried removing drivers. Then reboot.
Then loading a WIN7 driver for this USB chip from internet.
Then installing this. Then reboot.
Then connecting Velleman, then installing driver from control panel.
yellow sign did not disappear.
Then running PcLab2000SE.
still no success. Seems to be hopeless for me . . . I am sorry !
One alternative solution may be to restore your PC to the time before you installed the first PCGU1000 driver and then install the latest driver version 5.4.0.0 and then run CP210x_VCP_Win2K_XP_S2K3.exe.
After doing this you can install and run the latest PcLab2000SE version 4.05.
Thank you for this hint to the alternative solution. I am using this laptop also for editing my homepage www.gesundohnepillen.de and much other very important work every day. Therefore I would not like to risk loosing something of that in the moment.
Better would be using kind of a cleaner tool to get rid of the mess and reinstall. Is there a hint what to do in this case?
It seems to be that the driver is the main problem. Therefore the yellow mark which should vanish when the correct driver is there. I measured 9V on the supply to the box. The red LED does not light up. Is this correct?
The USB chip will run just when connected to the USB line. But the PIC after the couplers will only start to work when 9V is there and when this is translated to the smaller voltage for the PIC.
So I hope the PIC will work. I do hope there is no problem with the supply inside causing trouble. I cannot see on the LED if there is all ok inside. I did not look inside. Would not be so good if there is still guarantee.
Can’t the driver be uninstalled and removed in the Device Manager?
in the Device Manager select View -> Show hidden devices.
Then under Ports COM & LPT uninstall the PCGU1000.
Also uninstall the PCGU1000 if it exists under the Universal Serial Bus controllers.
BTW: System Restore does not affect your personal files, but restore all system files of Windows 7, the register settings and programs. windows.microsoft.com/en-us/wind … =windows-7
yes. I did this several times.
every time when I reconnect an entry appears - with the yellow sign.
yes - doing this no entry is shown when no device is connected.
I did.
I also did.
The problem may be that with the first installation I did with the CD content there came up a USB entry. The PClab2000SE program seems to look for a USB connection. But the driver that I later installed was shown as COM3. So this may not be found as a USB device?
There is no button to switch from USB devices to COM devices in the PClab2000SE program there.
When I reconnect the USB wire to the PCGU1000 a line “PCGU1000 Function Generator (COM3)” appears under com and lpt but not under USB as it was at the beginning.
PClab2000SE does not detect a USB device, even if PCGU1000 is clicked on. Its also no lpt device. So how should this work? Seems to be necessary to be detected as USB device. Seems to be a USB driver problem?
BTW: System Restore does not affect your personal files, but restore all system files of Windows 7, the register settings and programs. windows.microsoft.com/en-us/wind … =windows-7
Thank you for this. So I could have a try.

I did restore to before this installation. So it should work now !
I did start the CP210… exe and let it run completely. Are you sure that this is ok for win7 64bit?
There still is this yellow warning sign afterwards there !
I did install the driver by giving the path to driver 5.4.0.0. I let it install ignoring the safety message.
There comes a message failed (digital signature). Still the yellow sign is there.
It does not work this way for my win7 64bit system.
If you are interested I can send a file showing the messages. Tell me where to send.
The PCGU1000 is using virtual COM port for communicating.
So it should appear under the Ports COM & LPT in the Device Manager.
I did start the CP210… exe and let it run completely. Are you sure that this is ok for win7 64bit?
There still is this yellow warning sign afterwards there !
The warning sign should disappear after installing the PCGU1000 driver.
There comes a message failed (digital signature).
This is strange problem. I have no similar message with Windows 7 64-bit.
I tried once more getting driver installation back using the windows feature. Unfortunately now my laptop does not boot any longer. Attempts to repair this by the system fail. I am unable getting to my files this way. So everybody should be cautious about using this windows feature. It may fail !
Result:
I had a working system until I started installing Velleman from the driver supplied on CD and from internet. Now my laptop is no longer usable. I may need to reinstall all which takes at least one day !
