How to print from SD card ?
What format card is needed ?
Is STL type supported ?
As far as i know you need to convert the .STL to a gcode file first using a slicer tool.
I just took an SD card out of my camera (first one available) and copied the gcode file to it. On the Vertex, select ‘init SD card’ (this doesn’t format your card, it just resets the card reader) and then ‘print from SD’. You can then browse for your file.
As the manual states, do not copy a gcode file for a model for another printer!
D O H !!
I was thinking that you just put STL file on SD card and press print .
Also I was thinking that I get 2 printer heads when I bought (ordered) this printer.
And Just connect MAC and print…
Marketing BS at best. Nothing is like cleverly hinted.
little did I know that this is so complicated.
My friend bought ready made printer with 799Eur and has printed 200 hours without problems.
I have printed 1 good print and rest has been just struggle.
Eventually this will be good printer , but now it is just frustrating.
i agree that some things could have been communicated better by the webshop where i bought mine, but a little research in advance would have saved you a lot of misunderstanding.
All printers need STL files to be sliced.
If you look at the specs on the Vertex website (http://www.vertex3dprinter.eu/#specs) it’s clearly stated that “One nozzle supplied. Second nozzle optional.”
Building a kit needs some skills, a lot of patience and fiddling.
Yep, but you learn a lot.
Hi. Got a sd-card that works in my computers… When i put a g-code on it and insert it in the k8400 it does not read it. On the lcd display it says “no sd card”
Hmm… where do i start to look for the error. Otherwise the printer works like a dream.

did you select ‘init SD card’? unlike the label says, it does NOT format your card, it re-initialises the reader after you inject a card.
the manual has a section on it:
manuals.velleman.eu/article/3-lc … RINTFROMSD
Yes i tried that. Its a very old sdcard… Formatted fat32…
And with a different card?
Next step… Only have this one… Works fine in two computers…
I also tried to use some (very) old SD cards I had lying around but they didn’t work. I took one from my camera and it worked perfectly.
So I suppose old SD cards are not compatible (even if you can read them in your computer).
Got a new sdcard today… and it worked… Bought Sandisk Ultra 4gb 30 mb/s. 69 swedish kr. Thx for inputs.
It seems like the Velleman Vertex isnt supporting newer SDXC cards (exFAT). You’ll need a SD card formatted to FAT32 file system.
