Printing 0.2mm layers with K8400

Has anyone tried that? I’m printing some mechanical adapter brackets which don’t have much detail or require high surface finish.

When I create a 0.2mm quality in the configuration menu of curaengine, it gets listed and generated parameters make sense. However when I try to select this newly created ‘quality’ in the print settings, it’s not there. Only the default 0.1mm is listed there.

What can I do?

Didn’t you forget to save your new settings?

indeed, you need to create a new profile and save it; and select the profile and desired ‘quality’ in prijt settings.

The cura-engine comes up with some default settings for printing 0.2mm layer thickness.

Question: should the bed to nozzle distance be differently calibrated for the thicker layers? Or does the software take this into account?
Question: should the bed to nozzle distance be differently calibrated for the thicker layers?
Not necessary. 0.2mm will be fine.
Or does the software take this into account?
Nope. The thicker first layer is meant to compensate for any irregularity or level variation of the bed. If it works for the 0.1 mm setting it will work for the 0.2 too.

Hi Raby,

I’ve just printed some small test beam, it looks ok but simple shapes go A LOT faster, bit more than half the 0.1mm time.
you’re right, nozzle distance to bed is the same for 0.2mm layer thickness than for 0.1mm

Works great… full bed of items in one night printed.

Nice to hear you got it right. Happy printing.
