Printhead

I am planning to make changes to the printhead for better cooling. But before doing this I want to get a better understanding of the cooling system.
Can somebody tell me what the function of the big fan on the printhead is. It seem that the fan is blowing into a space with no outlet.

The xy-carriage parts (3 parts) has small vertical air channels inside. The air blows around the brass bearings out of the bottom of the printhead.

Additionaly there is a opening in the extruder mounting plate in front of the carriage parts between the two isolators. In my opinion the main purpose of the radial fan is cooling the isolators. Indeed there are openings in the carriage parts too. I think this should prevent the carriage parts from overheating.

Tried myself to improove the printhead.
