Hello everyone,
I’m hoping to modify my Repetier configuration to get some higher quality prints from my bone stock K8200. Is this possible with the stock extruder and hotend?
I’ve used the printer settings from the bottom of the first page of this thread:
http://forum.velleman.eu/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=11410&p=48161&hilit=print+quality+resolution#p48161
I’m trying to print this planetary gearset from thingverse, trying to get this high of a print resolution
Here is how mine turned out:
The printer has been working well, probably put a few hundred horus of print on it. But I can’t print anything with high resolution / fine quality. Can I assume I need to replace the hotend with a .25mm? What is the stock hotend diameter? I’m pretty sure its the stock hotend, here are some pics:
Stock extruder? 3MM PLA filament
Try a E3D hotend, this improves print quality a lot.

An upgraded hot end will give you better resolution, but it looks like there are some problems with your current setup/parameters. You should be able to get a better print out of your existing setup just by tweaking some parameters.
It looks like maybe you aren’t extruding enough material, for starters. You might bump your extrusion multiplier (or make sure you don’t already have it set too low) to make sure you are putting out enough material to fill your layers.
Also, print speed is critical in getting the best detail. Try printing it again at half the speed and see if you get any improvement.
That could even be a problem with your extruder temperature or the brand/color of filament you are using. Do you get the same result when you print with another roll? What happens if you increase the extruder temperature by 5 degrees?
Even if you upgrade the hot end, you’ll still want to know how to do these calibrations to get the best results.
Good luck!
