I have serious banding on my prints. I searched this forum already and found out that you have to get the rod and the shaft more out of the coupler, did that, no fix. Then I came around this Z-Axis stabilizer. Installed this, still no fix.
Anybody that has some fixes? It isn’t consisten tho, so I guess it’s the rod itself?
I hope on getting some input!! Not liking the print quality so far.
Yes, I’m not convinced by that fix either and neither are Velleman.
I suspect the issue lies with your z-axis alignment and the stepper motor. I know you said you checked this, but check again! First disconnect the flexible coupler from both the stepper motor and the rod and then check the angle of the zaxis rod. It should be parallel to the back of the machine. Then check the top of the stepper motor axis with the bottom of the rod - are they really in alignment? I found the alignment was poor on mine and took a lot of messing about to get it as true as possible. Only once you’ve done this should then reconnect the flexible coupler and think of leaving some space between the base of the rod and the top of the stepper motor pin (though I don’t think this makes much difference - the stepper motor should not generate any vertical movement as it rotates). There’s also the the vibration preventing thingy on thingiverse, but this may not be in alignment with your zaxis rod - mine wasn’t and it might cause greater stress on your stepper as a result.
The other thing to check is to see if there is any resistance with the flexible coupler removed - just check none of the linear bearings fell out (as they are prone to) when you installed them. Mine ‘crack’ as you slide it up and down, which is a sure sign there’s one missing, as a result there is a little uneven resistance as the platform moves up and down.
They are indeed not aligned, the motor is closer to the back of the printer. Do I have to add some spacers then or what? Sould I print a mount that has a bit more standoff from the printer?
I put a spacer on the Engine fitting, and aligned the motor against the zaxis rod as good it was possible. Did have banding. After the coupler adjustment the banding was gone.
Be careful when you mount the coupler against the rod. Try to get the coupler screw direct on-top of the thread, not between 2 threads. The coupler tilts very easy.

If the motor and rod are not on the same axis it could be some error while assembling the printer? Could you check these elements again with the pictures in the manual?
If a plastic part is not up to spec you can open a support ticket here http://support.velleman.eu and make the case for a replacement part with photos of the defective/warped/… part.
