On some prints I’ve done recently the first layer has been great but the second layer doesn’t go on very well. It looks as if its not extruding enough or the Z axis has lifted too far. The layer doesn’t seem to stick to the first very well. All the layers after are ok. The finished print comes out ok but you can see a few faults between the 1st and 2nd layers.
Any idea whats going on?
The only change I’ve made to the settings is to increase the first layer height to 0.40 because this has helped a lot to keep the print stuck to the bed. Could this be affecting the second layer?
I have exactly the same problem with the second layer but unfortunately no solution yet.
If you solve the problem, please post it here. I will do the same of course
Well after several test prints got the problem sorted.
The first problem was the Z axis home position had somehow moved! So the nozzle was around 0.40mm above the bed. Not sure how it got moved but set it up again to around 0.15 - 0.25mm (the bed isn’t very flat!!)
Now the print is much better but starting to come unstuck again.
Found that setting the first layer height to 0.38mm, first layer speed to 60%, first layer extrusion width to 112% the prints were sticking very well to the bed and the second layer problem isn’t there.
I also checked the diameter of my PLA, found it to be more like 2.85mm so adjusted that setting as well. I think all my other settings are the original k8200_pla_standard_new.
Hope this helps anyone having the same problems.
The configuration file from the K8200 website should work perfectly. Make sure that you roughen up the bed with sandpaper before printing. If necessary, use alcohol to make the bed grease free. Verify that your Z-axis endstop and screw are both securely tightened.
