Plug on board

Just wondering what the plug next to the voltage in on the main board of the printer is for?
I have seen an LED light in the shops which ‘just plugs in’. Is that the sort of thing it is used with?
If so, what voltage is the output usually?
I am printing an LED light and was trying to figure out which way to wire it - separate battery or plug it in.

Hi John.

Which connector do you mean ?
The unused 4 pin header (second from left side) on the lower edge of the controller, as shown in this picture?

That looks a little different in a couple of places, but the 4 pin header in your picture is where the USB connector is for mine. If you go down to the bottom of the board and slightly left, pointing down is a black socket. This is the one I mean. Also, I have a 2 pin screw in terminals to the left of that where the 2 solder pads are.

Here is a marked version of the picture.
The barrel jack you mean is also the 15V input. (parallel to the screw terminal)
So you can use it to tap 15v power from it to connect LED lighting or similar.

Barrel jack. That’s it. Was that an older or different version of power in originally?
So in a way, this can be a 15v DC output if it is not being used for anything else?

The lights I’ll use are 8 white LED’s, so that means that I can wire them in 2x groups of 4 LED’s.
At about 3.8v each (4v max), that’s 15.2v - just right.

Thanks.

John.

Yes, exactly.
Some controller manufacturers just leave out the 15v screw terminal.
