Please Help with PC not recognising P8055

I feel so rubbish asking for help like this but i am a REAL amature with this kinda thing.

I bought and assembled a P8055 and will eventually try and run two motors off it dependant on some code i have managed to find in Processing. In the meantime, i am failing at the first hurdle!
I am trying to run the K8055_Demo software. I copied the most up-to-date .dll into my /System 32 but still i get the error message:

Card x not found

when i click “connect”. I have tried all the options with the jumpers but still nothing.

so far this is what is happening:

  • i open the demo program and set my address
  • i plug my interface board in
  • “power” (LD11) light goes on (rather than the LD3 which the instructions claim)
and LD8 (rather than LD4 as said by the instructions) flashes and stays on.
  • I click “connect” with none of the jumpers connected and SK5 and 6 unticked
  • Card 3 not found

I just need to be able to get my pc to recognise the board for now. it isnt visible in the “hardware” in the control panel. I have also tried it on a Win7 as well as a XP.

i checked the soldering so i have no dry connections

Have i wired it wrong?
Have i installed it wrong?
Have a burnt out one or more IC’s?
any of the above?
None of the above?
how do i check?

i am actually lost

thanks to anyone who will help out.

Here is the link to download up-to-date manual with correct LED numbers:
velleman.eu/downloads/0/illu … k_rev3.pdf

The flashes of the LED LD8 indicate that the CPU starts to run.
If LED LD8 stays on, it indicates that the USB enumeration process fails and the PC doesn’t detect the card.
