Auto Home was grinding during X-travel, so I applied the hammer to the end clamps (I want to have it tied to the K8400 on a rope like the 10th Doctor Who did to his TARDIS console, geek yes me). It would work smoothly for a print or two, then go back to grinding. This was new.
Indeed, when I pushed (by hand) the print head to the right, I felt the characteristic resistance of misaligned rod clamps. BUT, once I got it pushed all the way over, it would then freely move back and forth like normal. But a few prints later, Grind City. I guess I’m wondering if anyone has any experience or ideas about this before I tear it apart again.
Yep the alignment is still not perfect. I’ve updated the Wiki about that with a step by step explanation. Hope it will help. At least I did it and now my printer is working like a charm.
I did print out the alignment guides and they told me the rods were pretty much aligned. I should have mentioned that when the friction on the rods gets too high, what solves it is banging the end clamps closer together. I have a very strong suspicion that when I do that, I’m compressing a pocket of air inside the clamp end, which eventually uncompresses as the printer moves and vibrates, pushing the clamp back into its over-distanced friction position. I have a Dremel with a 0.5mm bit in it, I think I’ll make a small vent hole in the back of the end clamp and see if the problem goes away for good.
