PCSGU250 won't calibrate

my PC-oscilloscope-generator won’t calibrate when i start up PC lab 2000LT
(i use windows XP service pack 3)

when i accept to calibrate the PSCGU250

the blue calibration square comes up,

but calibrating stays on 0%

i waited hours still 0%
i tried different USB port with the PSCGU250 driver and the PSCGU250 win_driver
when i hook it up to my fathers computer (Vista)
then it calibrates.

any solutions would certainly be welcome

This is strange problem.
It seems that the PCSGU250 is OK - it calibrates in the Vista PC anyhow.
I do not know the reason to the problem.

A workaround is to copy the PCSGU250.INI file from the Vista PC to your XP PC.
The file is in Vista PC in the folder C:\Usersusername\AppData\Local\Velleman
You have to put it to the program folder of your XP PC:
C:\Program Files\Velleman\PcLab2000LT

After doing this you can hopefully use the PCSGU250 until the final solution to this problem is found.

Have you downloaded and installed the latest software version 1.06 ?
If not, please download it from here: velleman.be/be/en/download/files/
This is the direct link to download: velleman.be/downloads/files/ … v_1_06.zip

jup i’ve installed the latest version of PClab2000LT

still 0% calibration,

but today i’ll try your “workaround” and see if that works

your workaround doesn’t work he still asks for calibration.

any other options ?

I’m very sorry, I was wrong. :frowning:
After closer look I noticed that in XP the PCSGU250.INI file should be put to the folder:
C:\Documents and Settingsusername\Local Settings\Application Data\Velleman\PCSGU250

no problem

i’ll test it tomorrow, hope it works

but if i take the calibrated vista file will it still be accurate on XP ?

The INI file contains the individual calibration values for this PCSGU250 unit. The values are portable and valid in the other PC too.
I hope you get the scope-generator running in your PC.

when i try to run it with the ‘workaround’ it first says:

scope disconnected i hear the USB disconnecting sound

then after that i hear the USB connected sound again

then it says it will calibrate ch1 and ch2 of the oscylloscope. and the 0% error starts over :frowning:

Do you see the “Loading, please wait…” on the oscillosope screen at the startup.
Does the USB disconnected sound come before or after this or just before the request to calibrate?

To generate new PCSGU250.INI (and the folder path if needed) do following:

  • Disconnect the USB cable.
  • Run PCLAB2000LT
Click OK, OK. The program will be run in demo mode.
  • Close the software.

Then check that the date and time of the PCSGU250.INI are updated.
Check also that there is FGen250.ini in this folder.

  • Open the PCSGU250.INI in a text editor.

  • Change:
    HWdialog=1
    to
    HWdialog=0

  • Save PCSGU250.INI

  • Connect the USB cable.

  • Run PCLAB2000LT

  • Select Options/Hardware Options menu option to enter normal mode.

Now the program should start without the need to calibrate.

there is also a FGen250.INI file what do i do with that ?

ok if i do that, he doesn’t calibrate…

but i have no generator output, i haven’t got the scope lines.

also the ready light of the PCSGU250 doesn’t light up

There is no need to modify the FGen250.INI. The generator should work.
but i have no generator output, i haven’t got the scope lines.
If I understand right you got no trace on the oscilloscope screen.
It seems that there is some USB communication problems maybe.

The ready light should light up just after the “Loading, please wait…” disappears.
The intensity of the ready light increases when the generator signal is output. This happens when one of the waveform buttons is pressed.

nope the ready light never led up.

i don’t know why it doesn’t lit up.

PS if we are both belgian can’t we talk in dutch or is that against the rules ???

But you see the “Loading, please wait…” text ?
The text should be there about 3 seconds when program started.
It seems that the USB communication terminates for some reason just at that moment.
PS if we are both belgian can’t we talk in dutch or is that against the rules ???
Sorry - it is against the forum rules.

yes i see that text 3 seconds or so

then it normally asks me to callibrate

but trough the whole process the ready LED doesn’t lit up.

so i think there is something wrong with the USB com

i use USB 2.0
the drivers are intel USB 2.0 enhanced controllers

for the PCSGU250 i used the PCSGU250 driver and the PCSGU250 win driver and both fail

could it be that the USB ports don’t deliver enough current ?

oh srry i thought you were belgian because your location said: belgium, srry

I think this is the problem:
The current consumption increases after the firmware is uploaded to the PCSGU250.
It seems that the current consumption of this PCSGU250 is too high for your PC’s USB output.

You may try other USB slots of the PC (maybe no help - but worth to try).

The solution may be to use USB HUB with external power adapter.
Anyhow the current consumption is within the 500mA USB specifications:
Found this from another thread:
Normally PCSGU250 takes about 27mA at the startup just when USB cable is plugged in.
When the PcLab2000LT program is running the current consumption increases to about 390mA.
This may be one alternative:
velleman.be/be/en/product/view/?id=363518

Before buying the USB HUB you may try this slightly modified firmware for the PCSGU250.
You can download the firmware file from this link: box.net/shared/qv5binvvt7

Extract the file and replace the existing PCGU250.BIT with this new one in the folder C:\Program Files\Velleman\PcLab2000LT

This new firmware reduces the current consumption to about 350mA.

Delete the PCSGU250.ini from the folder C:\Documents and Settingsusername\Local Settings\Application Data\Velleman\PCSGU250
Then run the PCLAB2000LT.
I hope you get the scope calibrated and running.

jep its up and running

thanks for all your help
