PCSGU250 driver installation problematic on Win8.1

Greetings,
I have a PCSGU250 that I’ve used for some years both under WinXP and under Win7. Now with the new laptop and Win8.1 I’m unable to install the driver from velleman.eu/downloads/files … r-win8.zip

I extract the both the scope SW and driver software. Install the scope software as Admin, and that work well. But the driver installation fails, in spite of several attempts.
Installing the driver the error message is roughly “the driver was found, an error occurred when the driver was to be added to the archive”.
No driver is installed when checking the control panel PCSGU250 unit.
The laptop senses that the USB cable is being connected, but it never asks for a driver or seems to even guess it’s the PCSGU250.
Running the scope software and switching from “demo” mode to PCSGU20 it simply says there is no driver installed.

Any help/suggestions appreciated!
Cheers,
Martin

On 64bit Windows 8.1, you have to disable the driver signature enforcement to install the driver.

Here are the instructions how to disable the driver signature enforcement on Windows 8.1:

Fantastic!!
That worked right away! Many, many thanks!

I have the same problem. I disabled the ‘driver signature enforcement’ and installed the program.
It starts up, but only in Demo mode.
With the device connected to a USB port and Options - Hardware setup - o PCSGU250 set I get ‘No hardware response’. Disconnecting and connecting doesn’t help
The devicemanager tells me: No driver available.
The scope works fine on my old Windows XP compu.

How to solve this?

It seems the driver is not installed anyhow.
After disabling the driver signature enforcement you can install the driver.
You can use either of the drivers available here:
velleman.eu/support/download … u250&type=
You can use the instructions written for the Windows 7 driver install.
Here you can download the detailed step-by-step instructions to install the driver: box.com/s/vh9olqyx3idhhxn8ujwm

Okey, Thanks, it is working now.

But there is a new problem. After closing the program and restarting it it gets stuck in the ‘Loading. Please wait’ window. After dis- and reconnecting the USB cable and clicking Options - hardware_setup and OK it will start again.

Not a big problem, but annoying and probably unnescesary.
I would be grateful if you know a solution.

Regards, Kees

The problem you are encountering may be USB related.
No such problem reported before for the PCSGU250 (or other USB oscilloscopes).
Does the problem occur if you just disconnect and reconnect the USB cable after closing the program?
Or is it needed also to click Options - hardware_setup and OK?
