PCSGU250 - Apparently Dead on Arrival

Hi, newbie to the forum here.

I just bought a PCSGU250 online this week, and upon arrival today it doesn’t seem to function at all. I am reasonably computer savvy, and I looked through the forum already looking for advice…

My problem is simple. Upon connection to my laptop, the unit makes no response whatsoever. No LED, no showing up on the PC side anywhere (even in the device manager), nothing. I can’t even install the drivers because my machine has no target device to work with.

I am a Computer engineering student, running 64-bit Windows 8.1 ultimate on my machine, and all of my computer’s ports are working. It’s just the oscilloscope that doesn’t want to work. There burned “electronics smell” is also fairly strong, but I’m not sure if that’s just because it was a new and sealed unit.

I’d hate to pull any accusations right out of the gate, so I was wondering if anyone had any tips before I try to seek a replacement unit. Thanks in advance!
