Pcgu1000

I just installed a PCGU1000 on Xp/SP2
It’s working fine with an administrator account but with a user account I get “No function Generator response” message!
User account have all access rights on the software folder
How to configure this?
Thanks

In Windows XP there seems to be two account types only:

 • Computer administrator
 • Limited

The strange thing is:
I created a limited account and the PCGU1000 is running without any problems with this account.

The only error I get when run is this: “Failed to create key Software\Velleman\PcLab2000SE”.
This indicates the limited account has no right to write to the registry.

I had the registry access right problem but I fixed it by openning authorisations on this part of the registry tree (by searching for “velleman” in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE) to all users of the computer
By the way, the equipment is working fine because I have the same problem on 6 computers/6 PCGU1000
Thanks

I made some test with Windows 2000.
There I encountered the problem with user account.

Then I checked the COM port number of the PCGU1000.
It was 9.
I changed it to 3 and everything started to work.

I repeated this test with XP.
Ports COM9 and higher do not work on user account.
Ports up to COM256 seems to work on administrator account.

On all computers the PCGU1000 are set on COM3

Thanksd for your advise, I tried it. The first time switching to COM2 (COM3 ~ 6 are not available) it worked. Starting PCLab2000SE a second time the known error occured again. Also the next times starting PcLab
Switching back to COM7 and then back to COM2 an error message appeared (“COM2 ist reserved by other apllication”). PcLab didn’t work.

Please see this thread how to free the reserved virtual COM ports: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=4751
A quote from the post:
As a side note to this thread, if you have installed and uninstalled a great number of virtual COM devices you may see some silly assignments like COM43 or even higher.
Here is a document that explains how to reset the virtual COM port number assignments and get the numbers back down to normal…
There is a link to download a driver installation program. You may also try it.
