I use Windows XP…
To check that the driver is correctly installed do following:
Connect the power supply and the USB cable to the PCGU1000 generator.
Go to Device Manager (Control Panel | System | Hardware | Device Manager). Scroll down to Ports and click the plus sign.
There should be seen text: “PCGU1000 COM Port (COMx)” The x is the port number and must be in between 1 … 9.
Scroll down to the Universal Serial Bus section and click the plus sign.
There should be seen text: “PCGU1000 Function Generator”.
Do you get this message:
“No Function Generator response.
Please make sure that the USB cable is connected.
If connected: Disconnect and reconnect the USB cable.
Program will be closed.”
Or this one:
“No Function Generator response.
Check the power adapter connection and restart this program.”
Hi,
first of all thanks for the hael you are providing me.
In the device manager under the section “Ports” I see:
"PCGU1000 COM PORT (COM 12).
Under the “Universal Serial Bus” section I see “PCGU1000 Function Generator”.
The message returned me by the PCLAB2000SE is:
“No Function Generator Response. Please make sure that the USB cable is connected. If connected: disconnect and reconnect the USB cable. Program will be closed”.
I think the probleb is relataem the COM number. 12 is above 1…9 you told me.
TIA

You have to change the port number.
Hope there is free COM port 1…9.
Here is how to change the port number:
In Device Manager, double click on PCGU1000 Com Port.
On Port Settings tab click Advanced.
Change COM Port Number to an unused port in the range of 1 to 9.
Click OK, OK to exit.
Close Device Manager. (Next time in the Device Manager new port number is displayed.)
Hi,
I’ve changed the COM port number to 9 and now it works.
thanks for the help provided

This is the closest forum that I could find, so if I am in the wrong place forgive me. I have just received a PCGU1000 and would like to connect it through the USB to an old Windows 98se pc I have. So far I can not get any drivers to install. Windows does not find the driver no matter how I have tried to point to them. Any ideas?
The driver for Win98 is in the \PCGU_driver_Win98_me folder.
You must first run the ‘pre_installer.exe’ to install this driver.
I have tried to run PreInstaller.exec and get a error message
Error copying PCGUbus.inf to C:\windows\inf
I double checked and that member is not on the system
Stlll can not get the pre-installer to work. Tried coping the .inf files to windows/inf and the .sys files to windos/systems. Still no luck. Guess I should give up on this unit.
Have you tried copying everthing from the [Cd=ROM]:\PCGU1000_driver\PCGU_driver_Win98_Me folder to a local folder with a shorter name–like C:\PCGU for instance–and then running the PreInstaller from the new folder?
Window 98’s long filename support was never robust, and also often W98 wants to make temporary folders and files in the working folder–obviously this cannot be done on a CD-ROM.
(BTW–you may want to make sure the ReadOnly status is cleared on the copied files; IIRC W98 had issues with that too.)
In the last I think it unfair to damn the instrument because you are having difficulties installing it on an 11 year-old operating system. In fact I’m surprised Velleman has even tried to support '98 and ME…
Sorry didn’t mean it to sound like I was damn the instrument. I meant the old computer and Win98. Just can’t convince the wife to give up her lap top with WIN XP.
I’ll try the shorter names and see what happens.
I understand,
FWIW I tried doing what I suggested on a WinME virtual machine–PreInstaller.exe crapped out with the “Cannot copy…” message. It appears that perhaps all that does it copy the driver files to C:\Program Files\Velleman\PCGU1000_driver, you may want to try just creating that folder and copying the files–then pointing to there when Win98 prompts for the drivers.
Tried installing from C:\Program Files\Velleman\PCGU1000_driver but Windows still could not find a driver. I just noticed a comment in the manual “For Win98Se ab USB-HID driver update can be necessary (See CD)”. I found a Dir for this but no details of what to do.
