PCGU1000 Under 64-bit (XP) Operating System?

Electromaniac provided modified driver install file to get PCSU1000 installed and running under XP x64. (See [forum.vellemanprojects.eu/t/pcsu1000-under-windows-xp-64-bit/1276/1)) The PSCU1000 works fine under XP x64, however I have not been able to get PCGU1000 to power up under XP x64.

I have made parallel modifications to FTDIBUS.INF file for the PCGU1000 device. Using this file, drivers will install and load normally upon PCGU1000 USB cable connection. However, the PCGU1000 won’t power up under PCLab application control. I believe there are some further changes needed in driver INF file, possibly related to external power source for PCGU1000 vs. USB power source on PCSU1000.

It seems that the latest driver for the USB chip of the PCGU1000, supplied by Silicon Laboratories, may work under Windows XP x64 too.

The driver has to be configured for the PID and VID programmed to the PCGU1000 chip.
Also the software has to be modified slightly due to that Silicon Laboratories has changed the operation of the supplementary DLL and the driver:

Here is the only comment found so far concerning the driver’s Windows XP x64 compatibility:
I know Silicon Labs don’t officially support x64 Vista or XP with their latest CP210x drivers, but they do work.
I am extremely happy about this! Finally a USB driver that I can get to work on 64-bit XP!
Now the new driver is configured and you can download it from:
vel255.diinoweb.com/files/PCGU1000_drv_v5220.zip

Extract the driver files to a folder keeping the subfolder structure.
Then plug in the PCGU1000 and locate this folder to install the driver.
Alternatively you can install the driver by running the program PCGU1000_Installer.exe before the PCGU1000 is plugged in.

Updated program file and one updated DLL for the PCSU1000 / PCGU1000 you can download from: vel255.diinoweb.com/files/PCSU10 … _v5220.zip

Copy these files to the PC-Lab2000SE folder (normally: C:\Program Files\Velleman\PC-Lab2000SE).

This is tested only under the 32 bit XP. May work - or not - under the XP x64…

Electromanic- Success! Just downloaded and installed 64-bit USB driver you provided under Win XP x64 Bit. Both PCGU1000 and PCSU1000 now working together simultaneously !! Thanks for your work getting this done.

I don’t have laptop with Vista x64 OS (don’t want it), but someone with Vista x64 might give it a try to test operation…

Thanks again,

Nice that you got it working!

Now the XP x64 problem seems to be solved.

Vista x64 is not as easy:
It needs that the device drivers must be digitally signed.

Of course this can be done… but not so as easy job as with XP x64.
Maybe also other problems may occur. See the Microsoft link:
What to consider when you install a 64-bit version of Windows Vista
• 64-bit device drivers may not be available for one or more devices in the computer.
• Device drivers must be digitally signed.
• 32-bit device drivers are not supported.
• 32-bit programs may not be fully compatible with a 64-bit operating system.
• It may be difficult to locate programs that are written specifically for a 64-bit operating system.
• Not all hardware devices may be compatible with a 64-bit version of Windows Vista.
Hello,

I’ve tried this in Vista 64, with no success.
I’ve tried the PCGU1000 with a Windows XP and works fine, on Vista 64 gets an error in the Com Port.
Is there a new driver for Vista 64?
I also have PCSU1000 and works great under Vista 64.

Thanks,

Julio Silva

Did you get the driver for the PCGU100 installed under Vista 64bit anyhow?
What is the error message concerning the COM port?
BTW: You need to replace some files when using the 64bit driver for the PCGU1000:

Hello,

I have PCSU1000 working fine on Vista 64B.
Now I’ve bought the PCGU1000, and I think it’s getting problems installing the drivers.

When I use the CD driver’s it installs an “PCGU1000 Function Generator” and it has a Yellow mark, in properties it says
“Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
Click ‘Check for solutions’ to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.”

When I use the driver’s above (PCGU1000 DRV 5220), I get a Com Port named “PCGU1000 Function Generator (COM15)” with the same message.

Thanks,

JS

I’ve digged and found a driver version 5.3, and copied the files over, and I’ve managed to install the PCGU1000 com port driver OK.
But now, the PC-LAB say’s no response from Function Generator…
It’s “PCGU1000 Function Generator (COM15)” working OK.

Thanks,

JS

I don’t know how, but I think I could make it work on Vista 64bits!!
Please make an easy install of it, since I lost more than 2 day’s searching and loosing time, with a think that supose to be simple.
I love the scope and the generator, only has this vista problem, that can be solved, and I can tell you that it’s working on Vista 64bits.

Thanks,

JS

Sorry that complete install package for Vista 64bit is not yet available.
Anyhow you succeeded to get both the PCSU1000 and the PCGU1000 working on Vista 64bit! - This is great!

Yes, I’ve been testing it, and it works great under Windows Vista Ultimate 64Bits.
This is a good intrument set, they work very good together.

Hope that soon the install package will be available for all, since it’s not a easy task to make it all working without it.

Thanks,

JS
