PCGU1000 problems

Hello,

trying out this product on several PCs.

On Windows XP SP2 (32bit) when I try to install one of the several drivers, new from Velleman website, and old from the packaged CD, it seems to install the driver correctly, how ever after I finish the installation it prompts for new hardware found again. I can go on with this forever and nothing seems to change.

Under device manager I can see PCSU1000 under COM -dropdown menu, but not under USB. As far as I have figured out it should be listed under both of them.

I’ve also tried running Usbview too, but I don’t really know about the technical stuff here. It shows and yellow/black exclamation
Device Descriptor:

I have also tried installing some sort of FTDI drivers with no success.

When I try plugging it in a newer machine with Windows 7 (32bit) I can’t install any drivers for it, how ever it appears to be installed on the machine. Opening the software however says that the PCGU1000 is NOT connected.

Now at this point I’m really starting to think if this device is defect. It doesn’t have any light to indicate that it’s doing anything even though I’ve connected the power adapter on it too. I read the forums about it and it appears that the light should be on only when it’s ready to work (software running and drivers installed).

I can’t either apply the LED-fix I read about on this forum on it either, but I doubt that will help anyway in this case?

If you are using the older version of the software then the COM port number for the PCGU1000 must be COM1 to COM9. In the Device Manager you’ll see the PCGU1000 in the Ports (COM & LPT) and in the Universal Serial Bus controllers sections.

If you are using the latest PCLab2000SE v4.00 and the driver 5.4.0.0, then there are no the COM port number limitations and you’ll see the PCGU1000 only in the Ports (COM & LPT) section of the Device Manager.

There are two possible error messages:
Message #1:
“No Function Generator response.
Check the power adapter connection.
Disconnect and reconnect the power adapter and restart PcLab2000SE.”

If the User Account Control (UAC) is on, then PcLab2000SE has to be run under administrator account.
Right-click on the PcLab2000SE icon on the desktop or in the programs list,
choose Properties, switch to the Compatibility tab,
select “Run this program as an administrator”.

Message #2:
“No Function Generator response.
Please make sure that the USB cable is connected.
If connected: Disconnect and reconnect the USB cable.
Program will be closed.”

This message #2 indicates that the virtual COM port can’t be opened.
This may indicate also driver problem.
If you have a 64-bit operating system Vista or Windows 7, you’ll get this error too.

In the latest software ZIP package there is included description how to get the PCGU1000 driver installed on a 64-bit operating system.

Are you getting the error message #1 or #2?
