PCGU1000 - no response

I studied all threads here, but found no slution to the Problem:

“No Function Generator response.
Check the power adapter connection and restart this program.”

The error message comes after the “LOADING” text.
The Power adaptor of the PCGU1000 was exchanged - problem persists.

Device Manager shows text: “PCGU1000 COM Port (COM5)” - o.k.

Universal Serial Bus section shows text: “PCGU1000 Function Generator” - o.k.

The red LCD is never on - is that o.k.?

I started in XP Compatibility mode - problem persists.

There is one strange thing: I read, I had to install DLPORTIO.DLL and DLOPRTIO.SYS. Both are in the same directory as PCLAB2000SE already.
Activating Install_drv.exe on your CD as administrator, the program tries to install to C:\Windoss\System32, but: Error “make shure DLPORTIO.DLL and DLOPRTIO.SYS are in the same directory…” - but they are!
So what to do???
Please help

The red LED should lit after the “LOADING” is complete.
It seems that your generator is defective.

BTW: DLPORTIO.DLL and DLOPRTIO.SYS are needed for the printer port (LPT) connected instruments only (e.g. PCS500, PCG10).

After trying everything without effect, I got a new generator from my dealer, asking me to send back the defectiv one.
The new one did not work either!
So I took an old PC and installed drivers and software, the - and BOTH generators are working perfectly! Only Com-Port-Nr. was higher than 09 and had to be changed.

There is some bug in the Velleman’s software under Vista!
And as Im won’t be the only user, having this problem, I think it should be solved very soon.
I hope I can spare other users a lot of time with my experiences.

Any ideas, what to do with Vista-Installation???

Please try to run the software with administrator privileges. Should run under Vista too.
Other possibility is to use the User Account Control (UAC) in Vista and give to the program more rights.

The problem is that the software checks the COM port number from the registry. It seems that this is not allowed as default in Vista.

Had same problem after installing new PCGU 1000 on Win XP SP2 Notebook (Dell XPS 1210). PCSU 1000 scope installed at same time and worked normally after loading. PCGU 1000 drivers went in fine but no Ready light after loading and connection error prompt. Installed on another notebook (Dell XPS 1530) with Vista and had identical problem.

Went back to XP notebook and went into Device Manager under Com Ports (when PCGU 1000 connected). Found out was set to Com 16. Went into Port Settings Tab under Advanced and changed to lower, unused Com Port 2. Unplugged USB cable and reconnected, restarted PCLab program and Generator powered up normally! Both intruments are working fine now, however I think Velleman should correct this in Driver or at least notify user of correction in Read Me file supplied with Software.

(I am using latest ver 3.06 of PC Lab 2000 SE)

Went back to my Vista Notebook (see my post above)- in order to get Function Generator to load and power up-- had to do following:

Right Click on PCLAB2000SE program icon, select Properties.
Under Compatibility tab, Check “Run in Windows XP-SP2” checkbox.
Started PC Lab, loaded and powered up PCGU-1000 and ran normally!

Alternative method is to “Start Program as Admistrator”, however this will requuire prompt each time when starting up.

Thank you for these comments and notifications how to get the PCGU1000 working under Windows XP and Vista.
This information will help many other users too.
Indeed, all this info has to be added to the manual and to the Read Me file on the disk.

Hello,

I know this problem by experience

It come from the power supply (USB)
If you use a USB Hub with a power supply then you don’t have the problem.

And I can’t use an another peripheric with the USB hub when the PCGU is connect on. Because the PCGU software (lab…) is not stable, by example the PCSU1000 or the PICbasic (Comfile).

When you use a Laptop with The PCGU, it’s possible that you have this problem with the USB power supply.

When I use the PCGU with the deskcomputer this problem isn’t not present. The USB power supply is often better

It’s not dependant of the OS (XP or VISTA), I did the tests

Best regard
